Re: Vera Cruz marketing [broadsword]
by carbuyer11 on Sun Nov 09 04:07:29 PST 2008
I raised the same question exactly 1 year ago on this forum (check page #2- "Hyundai needs a new marketing department"). It's like the vehicle doesn't even exist in Hyundai's lineup. It was like that a year ago and things haven't changed.
Vera Cruz marketing
by broadsword on Thu Nov 06 18:11:10 PST 2008
Does anyone have any idea why there is virtually no marketing of the Vera Cruz? I remember a couple of years ago the really effective commercial where the lady mistakes the VC for her Lexus - it got me to the dealership, and we ended up buying. The wife and I are very happy with the VC, but find it odd that we never see it advertised ANYWHERE! I see ads on TV all the time for the Santa Fe, but never the Vera Cruz - what's up???

Habitat1 regarding the pathatic MPG ofthe Nissan CVT, when I bought my Nissan Veras I was very dissapointed in my MPG I was supose to get 36 on the freeway, I was lucky to get 32, my over all MPG was down, until I past the 10K mile mark on the engine, my MPG went up with no change in driving habits. My Altima coupe, I have gotten better then the EPA says I should, its rated at 33 on the freeway, I'm getting 32.7 (per the on board computer) but I drive at 80 MPH too. I'm sure if I slow down, I would get 2-3 MPG better. The CVT is a tricky thing to drive, but once people understand how to drive it, it can get good MPG. I just wish you had the first hand knowledge of ownership of a Nissan with a CVT instead of reading something in a Mag... BTW, a ttest drive does not consititute ownership.
Hyundai

A guy I know works for Hyundai corporate, so he always has something new (I saw the Vera cruz a few months before it was released) and have ridden in a few. Really nice cars, good looking, upscale interiors. I haven't driven one, so can't comment on that, but I rode in the big sedan (above the Sonata, name escapes me!) Very comfy, quiet, nice ride, engine sounded nice, etc. I would look at one if I was in the market. I actually thought of a Sonata when I got my Accord, but they only offered the stick on a strippo. It takes a while to obtain a reputation, but if the quality is there (and CR gives them a thumbs up) and the keep the price advantage, they will be tough competition.
Very disappointed.

Finally got to the new Tribeca, or rather it came in in 7 pass form to my dealer. Unfortunately, it's just a few inches too short to be a functional 3rd row on a regular basis. Tried playing with it, but in order to get enough room for boys in snow boots to get into the 3rd row, the second row becomes too cramped behind my normal driving position. Lord knows what it will be like when the boys and Heather are 3-4 years older. I really wanted it to work, but as a routine 3 row vehicle like we need, it's a good 4-6" too short. Liked the new engine and the interior finish (better than the Highlander Limited in my opinion) plus the back-up camera (not even an option for the Hyundai Vera Cruz) and memory seats (which are incredibly not a feature of Highlander Limited). Unfortunatley, IMHO in funtionality the 3 row Tribeca is competing with the RAV-4 or Outlander which hit a much lower price point.

An assumption, but based on the Azera, I am doubtful of Hyundai's engineering on all of its vehicles and their ability to hold up over time. If they did not get the Azera right, why should I believe they got the new Santa Fe, Vera Cruz and Genesis right? Quite possibly they are doing too much at the same time with too little financial, design and engineerign resources. Look at all the complaints on the Hyundai forums.
