Since you remembered Broderick Crawford I assume you remember Buddy Ebsen and perhaps even Jack Lord. Do you remember the car enthusiast that said, "Live hard...die young...and leave a good looking corpse"?

"And you're the guy who corrects OUR grammer (sic-grammar)?" Hold on my observant friend. The word "payed" is an alternate spelling for the word "paid". While the word "payed" is the archaic form of the past tense and past participle of "pay", it has not yet been classified as obsolete---only as archaic. Therefore, it is permissible to use the word. I am glad that you "payed" attention to my post, but let us remember that this discussion involves spelling---not grammar. To stay on topic: I "payed"/"paid" for my car. To you, Mack, oldfarmer, and Chikoo---"Don't screw with me. This ain't my first time at the rodeo."---Joan Crawford speaking to the Pepsi Board of Directors :P Richard
