Dang Craig! You ARE older than dirt! Cholos, Churros, Taquitos, Chebbies, what else did you see? After participating in the recent spate of "guess that tune", I've come to the conclusion that every single one of you are older than I am ;) After forcing my son to listen to Van Morrison, Zep, Who, and other more esoteric relics for years, he's getting his come-uppance. I'm now a full-fledged "Goo Goo Dolls" fan based on his own personal listening habits ("Flaming Lips"? I originally thought he was going to have me listen to a soundtrack from a porn movie). But, my son considers the goo-goos an old group. I just added them to my i-pod as "new music". Back to cars, saw my first Challenger in the flesh (in the "metal"?). Orange, of course. Sitting in front of somebody's house, with a "For Sale" sign on it. How long could the lucky owner have possibly had it? I didn't even know they'd hit the streets, yet. Sign said "First offer of $50,000 puts this dream car in your garage". Ummmm....I'll pass.....not in my lifetime!

Van Morrison.... Brown Eyed Girl I am sure someone else already got it.... :shades: Please retail sales, lose "how much do you want to pay " It is not a valid open ended question that will allow further conversation. Instead it invokes, "well ,I want to pay zero " I hate using that one myself but basically resot to it when all else fails. I basically give a small discount and get a response that they have to think about it. That is when I think negotiations start. I I ask what do you have to think about the car or the money... it is always the money. Instead of "how much do you want to pay?" I ask well how close can you come to this number.... :shades: GP

Winner, winner chicken dinner. Man that was fast. Congrats, laurasdada. A classic organ chord progression but unlike Jim Morrison of the Doors who was known for occaisonally playing his own organ, a R&R hall of famer. At least you've got it on casette, lol, you didn't say 8-track. Wore out 3 copies of the Dead 'Europe '72 ' on that ill conceived technology.Conquistador a great song btw.. Should I mention the Cars for relevancy. Please post pictures of the Jag when you score it deskman, fond memories of a friend's classic XKE V-12. British Leyland. Yeah I know they broke down alot but they were still cool. Level = med hard Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you? Do you want to hear me beg you to take me back?

I've had cars with 200K on the clock on their original clutch, and I live in the Bay Area, I certainly spend my fair share of time in traffic. In 25 years I've changed one clutch, and that was on a '75 Z that I raced casually for a while. I drive in excess of 30K miles per year, so that's a lot of miles, 0 clutches. I don't know about you but I don't spend every minute of every day shifting for optimal fuel efficiency. But at the times when I want to do that, it is easy enough to do. In the Echo I pull 41+ mpg in normal use. The owners of automatic Echos struggle to break 35 mpg, even the ones trying to hypermile. Now if you ARE one to spend the majority of the time driving for optimal fuel efficiency, then today's "learning automatics" will learn that you like upshifts as soon as possible, and even when you WANT to go out for a drive with more pizzazz in it, you will be out of luck, because you taught your transmission too well. I think my good friend Morrison of Autoweek said it best in this week's issue, with regard to a test drive he did in a 128i, which unfortunately had an automatic rather than the proper transmission: "I only wish this car was equipped with a manual transmission; I suspect I would have enjoyed myself more. This automatic gearbox works fine, but as always, it greatly reduces the involvement and hence the fun. I couldn't help but feel that the 128 is probably a lot better than it seems with the auto"
