Re: Mazda sales [autonomous]
by aviboy97 on Tue Nov 18 07:10:29 PST 2008
How is the financial crisis affecting your dealership, aviboy? It's not that bad where I am. Could business be better? Absolutely. Sales are down, that's for sure. Are some vehicle purchases more affected than others? The Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-9 remain hot sellers....well, as hot as they can in a market like this. The CX-7 has really died down and the MX-5 is virtually dead. I'm guessing the MX-5 has hurt because it is usually a car purchased for recreation. People are not spending money on recreation right now. Any opinions on what would help the recovery? I'm stumped. I really think those people who have money to spend, and in my area that is a lot, are scared to spend it right now. Then there are those who are struggling to just get by. Those people are not even coming out. What really is hurting us is lending institutions. They are being very very restrictive and selective with who they lend money too. Almost too selective. I have had a few people with 700+ credit scores and money down rejected loans by banks that 3 months ago were lending out money to people with 600 credit scores and no money down. I understand, and agree, with not lending money to 600 type people, but a 700+ person? Come on. Those people pay their bills.
Only second-rate countries...

...don't have an auto industry of their own. Shoot even FRANCE has it's own auto industry and own Nissan to boot! Don't give me the UK as an example. They are a huge has-been nation compared to what they once were. "The sun never sets on British soil!" Feh! Looks like "Great" Britain has been experiencing a solar eclipse for almost 40 years. Yeah, we'll go into a deep depression if the Big Three collapse and we'll come out of it in about 5-10 years. Of course, will any of us be here when it ends? I so, won't we be living a much diminished lifestyle? Import lovers should really fear a collapse of the Big Three if they love their cars so much. Let me give you this scenario. "Hey, Bill! How's your new 2016 Toyota Camry? I love it, Joe, but I can't seem to keep a decent paint job on it. Every morning I wake up to see some joker keyed it or spraypainted profanity on it! Yeah, I'm having trouble with my 2014 Honda Accord. I just can't keep tires on it because some idiots keep slashing the sidewalls. Hey, there's Al! Al, we've been talking cars. How's your 2015 Nissan Altima? Fine, except I can't seem to keep glass in it with all these unemployed auto workers roaming the streets. Just yesterday, I was stopped at a light and these two guys in tattered clothes threw a cinderblock through my windshield. Geeze, why doesn't somebody call the cops? What cops? The city laid off half the force 'cause there's no tax funds for them. I hear there's going to be more lay-offs..."

How would you feel about paying for a new transmission? That's probably the biggest bill you're likely to face. Has oil consumption increased? Few people get much more than 200K miles on a car before major repairs start hitting, but some careful and conscientious owners go well past 300K. I suspect they don't mind putting money into an old car. You might want to go to a car dealer and just sit in a new car. How's it feel? Some people can't resist the goodies and upgrades that come with new cars. Others are immune. Good luck.
Bailout Dead for now...
by gagrice on Mon Nov 17 21:20:36 PST 2008
Seems the Democrats do not want to use the money allocated in the Energy bill to bail out the Big 3. Bush has said he did not want to spend all the money in the bailout. He will leave over half for Obama to decide. Obama makes the decision which voters he will pay back. GM folding will be forgotten in a year. Except for the suckers with their cars that were supposed to be covered by warranty. NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY A GM VEHICLE NOW. Ford will probably come out stronger as will Toyota and the other transplants.

IIRC, Dr. Z was running the company back then. Mabe Cerebus should send Daimler the bill.
