Motor Oil leak

I am the new owner of a 2002 2WD chevy tracker with 68,000 miles on the V-6 motor. I drove it to work a few days and noticed a bad oil leak. Is this common on this motor or what might cause it. I have no history on the vehicle pryor to me owning it. It does run good and didn't notice any thing unusual.

I am in the process of completing the timing belt replacement on my 2000 neon. The removal of the balancer was one of the first challenges as I did not think mine was going to ever come off either.. You will need a 3 arm gear puller. The first one I used was too big and would keep slipping off the balancer. The second one I used looks too small to do the job but it fit correctly and worked fine.There is suppose to be a special tool to place in the crankshaft to protect the threads.Some people use the balancer bolt but I had no luck with that. I made my own out of a bolt slightly smaller diameter than the one that holds the balancer on. Cut the head off and grind down the threads on the bolt so it won't damage the threads in the crank. It should bottom out in the crank, cut to length about even with the balancer face ( aprox. 4") . You will attach the puller on the inside part of the balancer , where it is about 21/2 " dia..You will see the "slots" where the puller arms should go.Tighten as much as possible. If it does not loosen, tap the puller with a hammer about 10 times. Tighten again....repeat this process until it loosens. You might want to tap gently on the face of the balancer pryor to using the puller. Just be carful not to mushroom the bolt hole. This should work for you. Just be aware this is a tough, tedious undertaking as you will find you will need a couple of specific tools and working space is TIGHT.( be sure to have a 3/8 drive 15mm socket, a long 3/8 extension and swivel... Be prepared to buy additional parts which will be expensive ...belt tensioner assembly and serpintine belt pulley assembly, also replace water pump while you are in there. I plan on posting a more detailed account on my experience soon. along with ways to save BIG $$$.

UAW supports major boost in fuel economy standards; compromise bill includes safeguards for U.S. auto manufacturing jobs The UAW “strongly supports” new fuel economy provisions in energy legislation being considered by Congress, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said today. “The UAW strongly supports this historic bill, which contains aggressive but still achievable fuel economy requirements,” said Gettelfinger. “It will help consumers and the environment, and at the same time protect U.S. jobs.” The new provisions on corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) require significant increases in the fuel economy standards for passenger cars and light trucks. By 2020 the average fuel economy for all cars and light trucks will have to achieve an average of 35 miles per gallon for the entire industry. This will guarantee substantial savings in gas consumption, thereby enhancing U.S. energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “There are no off ramps or other gimmicks,” said Gettelfinger of the compromise legislation. “The new rule cannot be gamed to avoid the higher requirements.” At the same time, Gettelfinger said, the new CAFE standards contain key features which were strongly supported by UAW members and their families during the discussions that led to the compromise legislation. These include: ● Strong anti-backsliding language to require automakers to produce smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles in the United States. This will protect the jobs of tens of thousands of American workers who assemble and produce parts for these vehicles. ● A continuation of the distinction between passenger cars and light trucks in the CAFE program. Requiring different rules for these different types of vehicles will ensure that light truck production and jobs are not adversely impacted by the new rules. ● An extension and then gradual phaseout of flex-fuel credits under the CAFE program. This will continue the incentive for auto companies to produce these vehicles, while helping moderate the transition to tougher fuel economy standards. ● Assistance to auto manufacturers for retooling facilities to produce hybrid and advanced diesel vehicles and their key components. This will accelerate the introduction of these more fuel-efficient vehicles, while helping ensure that cars and trucks of the future are built in this country, creating jobs for American workers. Gettelfinger applauded House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, along with House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair John Dingell, D- Mich.; Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chair Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., and Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Chair Daniel Inouye D-Hawaii, for their role in crafting the new CAFE provisions. “These legislative leaders were able to achieve a historic breakthrough on CAFE legislation because they listened to members of our union,” said Gettelfinger. “UAW members want to save fuel and protect the environment – and we also want to preserve good-paying U.S. manufacturing jobs. The new CAFE rules accomplish all of these objectives.” Gettelfinger also praised a number of other legislators instrumental in developing the new fuel economy rules, including Reps. Baron Hill, D-Ind.; Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich.; John Salazar, D-Colo., and Mike Ross, D-Ark., and Sens. In terms of valuation the State of Connecticut uses values from the NADA - values which are not available to the general public! We supposedly live in a democracy; however if you go tp the NADA website NADA are lobbying to block legislation which will improve gas mileage on vehicles and thus in effect the government is paying fees to an outfit which is AGAINST government legislation and thus agaisnt the public good! I guess "Way Forward" sounds better than a slogan stating the truth about Ford's current position - which could be taken from the old Richard Pryor movie, Which Way Is Up?. In Dearborn, at least, no one appears to know for sure... This is Ford's worst crisis since the early postwar years, when Henry Ford II had to revive a company run into the ground by his grandfather and Harry Bennett. What makes today's crisis even trickier is that in 1946-49 Ford could still sell everything it made, because consumers were desperate for anything on wheels. Today, Ford doesn't have that luxury. The sad part is that Ford has wonderful vehicles in Europe - the new Focus, the Mondeo and the new Focus C-Max and Galaxy people movers. If Ford offered vehicles with that level of engineering and style over here, it wouldn't be in trouble. But Dearborn has been skimping on new product in the passenger car market for years, and now the chickens have come home to roost.
01 chevrolet silverado check engine light on for crankshaft sensor

i have an 01 silverado with a 4.8 liter engine.about six months ago my truck was showing a multiple cylinder misfire.so i replaced the plugs and wires.it ran fine for a week and started doing that again.so i replaced them again.the misfiring stopped but my truck started surging and everytime i try to kick in the passing gear,it surge's and cuts out.ive replaced everything in the fuel system from the pump to the regulator.ive replaced an o2 sensor and the crankshaft sensor.which now it is showing the code p0336,saying that sensor is sending an incorrect signal for up to three seconds.i have spent over a thousand dollars trying to fix this problem.if anyone can help me out,please let me know. thanks
