Envy
by dallasdude1 on Mon Nov 17 15:11:28 PST 2008
For decades now the Japanese have been protecting their farm industry. Consumers there have paid an outrageous price for a steak. I see them eating even the fat in such places as the Grand Canyon, Disney World, and other tourist traps. Their govt has placed high tariffs on beef to protect their farmers/ranchers. However, we have allowed them entry to our markets. The auto market has been one. No barriers, tariffs, or hurdles to get in. The UAW has attained a high standard of living for folks who toil in many of these auto plants. Honest work for honest wages.Including the Toyota Corolla (UAW represented) plant in California. Many folks envy the compensation/benefit package. Instead of trying to get themselves the same or better, they want others to suffer with inferior compensation/benefit packages. Thats just plain envy. I say that they need to expend their efforts in organizing.

"No, all of this competition across the country is GOOD. I'm in a very high tax state (CA), and it's GOOD that other states can steal work and companies from us. CA deserves to hurt if they overtax us and make us business-unfriendly. It's GOOD that FL has no state income taxes, people retire to FL and it supports their economy. Any state that cannot compete should SUFFER. Anybody who can't find work in their state when there's lots of work elsewhere should MOVE" Well, in that case maybe we should rename ourselves the Every State for Themself of America instead of UNITED. I'm not saying that competition is bad, it IS good. Bad decisions SHOULD be punnished with bad results. But to say that states that CAN'T (as opposed to WON'T) compete should suffer is wrong. I'm sure that an entertainment company could "out Disney" Disney, and RI could give them all the incentives in the world to do so, but the fact that it averages 39 degrees in the winter makes that IMPLAUSIBLE. Not RI's fault, just a fact of life, and we souldn't be punnished for it. I'm all for states rights, but there comes a point in time where the federal government has to step in for the "GOOD OF THE COUNTRY". Labor laws, for example, should be standardized throughout the country.

cool, glad you like the hippe nonchick concept, maybe better than that previous account name which got hosed. when it rains it pours GTOs on you! niiiice... good to know the tires are working out nicely like mine and also that you find disney-radio (sirius?) unavoidable like me. i'm looking into sirius satellite tv next. no pressure on typing in all those alignment specs, but hey, if you get around to it. ps - selena gomez #1!
Re: The future of vehicle technology - circa 2035 (larsb)(mattandi) [hpmctorque]

"Finally, I think 2035 is way too far into the future to predict. " I'd go with that above all else. Simply see the 1955 vision of 1985 for evidence. There's a charming old Disney film called "Magic Highway USA" or something to that effect which gives a very amusing set of predictions for the future of travel. My prediction is simply more big-brother technology as the nanny state takes control of the first world.
New Jeeper with a 1990 Wrangler Islander
by disney1971 on Thu Feb 28 19:37:31 PST 2008
Hey Tom (or anyone else out there) can you help a new jeeper? I just bought a 1990 6cyl Islander and wanted to do some mods to it. I was looking at a body lift and some wider tires but am unsure about the hieght of the lift and size of the tire. I want to be able to do the off roading as well as the drive around town. Any suggestions? Thanks, Disney :D
