1988 f150

I would just like to post a thank you to mickeymouse2 for helping me with a recent issue with my vehicle. He saved me alot of time and money. I have been working on my 1988 f150 xlt lariat for quite sometime now and have big plans to turn this truck into a speed demon in the the spring. I am primarily concentrating on the motor at the moment. I have upgraded to a dual intake with seperate k&n filters (lucky this model's throttle body has seperate ports for intake tubes) I have installed bosch ultimate and Accel spiro high temp wires. I installed a throttle body spacer, new rad, water pump, hoses, egr valve, o2 sensor, starter, alternator, solenoid, upgraded to true dual 3' exhaust with magnaflow cats and cherry bomb mufflers (not to happy with these, not the sound I was expecting) custom made tailpipes 4 feet long at 3.5" diametre, cut to 45' at the tip. I have flushed and cleaned every system that has fuid in it. I switched to castrol syntec. The truck moves pretty good now from when I pulled it out of a 15 year storage. I am not getting the thottle response I would like of the line and if I catch 3rd gear in a lower rpm while coasting through town it sounds like an old farm truck. When I stomp on it it screams though. I have noticed the old crappy gas pedal is not very good and seems to stick a little. I have heard that I could install an aftermarket gas pedal and flip it upside down to get a little more response out of the old girl. I am planning on having the computer, heads, headers, and possibly a MAF conversion done in the spring, if I am brave enough to tackle it. Are there any other tricks I could try to get more throttle response out of my lower gears at lower rpms?

Spiro Agnew, c. 1970, complaining about the media. Yep, that’s what brought down the Nixon presidency (and old Spiro for good old fashioned corruption in his previous stint as governor of Maryland).

I am to assume you meant Corolla. You can buy a 2006 for $12,999 as a rental return. Malibu, that is. The last time a Malibu looked sharp, Nixon and Spiro T. Agnew were in charge in Washington D.C. What they did to bling up the Impala was pretty remarkable. Really gave it a better image, in a chrome on the outside, and more Japan like interior sort of way. The car is the same in most respects, but you get a sense they did a good job of getting a better dress for the old gal. Great effort for the bucks spent. It paid out OK, no doubt. Since the Aura is out now, there is little to no need for the Malibu -- yuk! Aura, or Opel is not the model design they may wish to use for all GM cars, but it may work for smaller cars, and Saturn. They need a different look for GM larger cars. Is Australia the answer? Holden and Opel the only looks for GM looking forward??? Ah, perhaps they got something up the sleeve. Not going to show the best cards just yet. GM does have a revolution in the works? Well they could. I think I need sleep, I am drifting into GM dreamland. Cars are flying, and who knows what. :shades: A side note: The Opera browser is excellent for use with this forum posting. And it has its own built-in spell checker. Page rendering works well too. May have to make minimum font more like a 16 though in preferences. -Loren

I also agree with kyfdx....I have just bought a 330ci with the sports package and 18" rims with the OEM Michelin Sport tires..and boy, do they suck in the snow. I also contemplated (with kyfdx and spiro's help on here) getting an all season tire on the existing rims and that way not have to keep switching every spring. However, I also know that I'd rather feel as good as possible with a rear wheel drive car in the snow, and the Blizzaks were the choice for me. So, I got a new set of wheels with the Blizzaks and it ran me just over a grand. Sure, I'll have the inconvenience of having to switch them out in the spring, but then again, I'd rather do that then wonder when I'm going to spin out and/or get stuck. I've asked a lot of people about this as well, and I'm sure the others in the forum can back me up, but it sounds like your BEST bet is to go with another set of winter tires. If that's not feasible, I would recommend going with an all season, but either way you are probably going to have to get them on all 4.
