Hitting right on mileage sticker
by bigbutr on Sat Oct 25 15:37:15 PDT 2008
Got my 08 Accord LX-P back in February. Heading into this past week, I was sitting on around 6100 miles, all but a couple of hundred being city driving. First few tanks were a little lower than I expected - 20.5 - 21.2 range. Not what I was getting in my old 4-cylinder 96 Chevy Beretta (24-26), but at least the Accord is much bigger, has four doors and is a lot more comfortable. Last fillup on only city driving saw it increase up to just over 22. Finally took a long highway trip for a postal union meeting - Panama City to Jacksonville, Fla. Trip there, averaging 68-70 mph and hitting Jax rush hour, I got 31.22 mpg never running the A/C. Coming back, same route and probably similar average though I did hit 100 briefly to get away from a block of cars and semis and using the A/C for defrost, I topped off and tallied a 35.96 mpg average. :) While I do wish the city average would be a little better, given how I drive it, getting at least what the sticker said (21/31) is OK, unlike our previous 06 Odyssey.
Lease offer on 2009 RX350
by bigbutr on Tue Aug 19 13:25:54 PDT 2008
Just got off the phone with an initial set of numbers for an RX350 with Nav, RES, Premium Plus, Heated Seats/RainSensing Wipers and Towing prep package. We currently have four months left on our current lease (2006 Odyssey) which were factored in. Guessing first offers aren't the best, but the numbers I punched into the lease calculator shows this is way high. MSRP: 46,800 Selling Price: 42,440 Remaining Lease Payments: 2,540 Total Selling: 45,000 Out of pocket: 1134 (First month payment, Doc fees) Monthly payment: 712 before taxes Dealer said they'd have to get vehicle since they don't have it, but would eat the 800 in transportation costs. Said I was getting the $1000 loyalty for previous Lexus owners and the interest rate was something like 1.6% until Sept. 2. Now, when I figure it in the lease calculator, here's what I come up with: MSRP: 46,800 Selling Price: 42,440 Add of lease payments: 2540 Total Selling Price: 45,000 Loyalty Discount: 1,000 Final Selling Price: 44,000 Monthly Payment w/ tax: 565 This is based on 57% residual and the 1.6% interest rate, which I'm sure we'll get given our credit scores. Got the song and dance of 'we'll do whatever we can to earn business, we'll grind some more on the price', yada, yada, yada. I know it's a game, but I don't like it to be so obvious they're trying to ream me. Should I just e-mail my numbers back to him and see if they'll take them or just not bother and try to work with some other dealers. The thing about where we are is that all of the Lexus dealers are at least 200 miles away, so we're going to have to drive somewhere. FWIW, we really don't have to do anything at the moment on our current lease since we have 8500 miles remaining. But the wife really wants something new and it we can swing it, all the better. I know we'll have to pay those remaining payments somewhere, so why not on a newer vehicle she'd be much happier with. Thanks in advance for any replies. Steve Panama City, FL
2006 Commander Too Much Trouble
by wsbevier on Tue Aug 19 06:32:44 PDT 2008
I have brought my vehicle in at least a dozen tmes for wind noise and numerous other issues. The dealer in Panama City, Florida claim it is caused by the mirrors. This time, I was advised the service adviser drove it and it was normal. The miles on my vehicle were less than 1 mile total. How could anyone have possibly test drove the vehicle. I also drove through 8 inches of standing water after street flooded this past spring. The vehicle sucked up water and ended up needed a new motor, $6000.00. This is a SUV and a Jeep right? My neighbor in their small Toyota went through the same water, and drove in and out no problem. My sun roof leaks, my transmission "clunks" at 35-40 mph when you remove your foot from the gas. Numerous sensors have been replaced. I have always been pro American cars...now I see why Japan is taking over. My dealer could care less, then they send me an email asking how my service experience was? I cannot trade it in, the trade in value is 14,000 and resell is 19,000 who would want it after they run the car fax? Jeep is losing customers, what are they doing? I agree call and email Jeep- class action anyone?
Question about used Cayenne
by bigbutr on Sun Aug 17 18:41:56 PDT 2008
While driving around the lots on a lazy Panama City, Florida Sunday afternoon, wife spotted a 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo on a Toyota lot and wanted to stop and take a look. Don't know if they have had it long, but the little info on their website says its got 72,000 miles and they're asking $29,999. :surprise: Did an Edmunds appraisal and even without any added options, it dealer sells at just over $44,000. I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow since we are in the market to replace a soon to be lease-returned Odyssey van, though I'm a little leery giving my wife something with that much power. Of everything we've looked at, this is the first time she's had that "I want that" look on her face. Is there something I should be looking for as to why it would be listed at that low a price? Maybe a drug dealer car picked up at a gov't auction?

The Accord 4cyl, is amazing! When compared to other 4cyl, you will soon realize, how smooth, and strong that engine really is. I love it! The v-tec really pulls. The engine has not been modified much from the previous generation, just reprogrammed. It simply pulls quite well if you need it to. I had noticed on my 06 Accord, that it had taken quite awhile to truly break-in, and as I got to about 12k or so miles, and noticed, it really had loosened up more. That is when the engine felt really good. I truly believe an engine takes awhile to break-in, even after its "factory" break-in time frame. I know this, because I have noticed it on both new cars I have had. The transmission is smoother, more predictable. I drove my car all the way down to Panama city Florida, from Indiana, and that really shows its true colors, and even in the hilly areas, it did quite well, but at some points having a bit more power would have been nice. But, the 4cyl, is quite torquey for what it is. Sooner or later, I see myself getting the new Accord, or the new TSX, But if I get the accord, I am going all out, and getting the V6, it has the VCM, so it will help on mileage. It will be my first V6 car. The TSX, would fun as well, very futuristic. The engine having the manual shift option would be fun.
