Well...: by iluvmysephia1 on Sun Nov 16 11:12:27 PST 2008; how does it affect us individually if we're not buying GM, Ford, or Chrysler products? By taxing us to pay for their mistakes? Or, socialism 101 in 2008? Oh, well, let them duke it out in Washington, D.C. Or, as Michael Reagan puts it, WasheeDC. He says Washington, D.C. so many times in his life that he kind of slurs it all together.

My problem is with the wording of these bail out documents. For example, the banks weren't told that the bail out money HAD to be used to resume lending to the consumers. It was only suggested. How dumb is that? Now, according to National Public Radio and a few other trusted media outlets, some banks are saying that they will just save the money for a rainy day! Others are going to use the money for capital improvements or to buy up smaller banks. Why was it not specifically stated that the money had to be used to stimulate lending to consumers? As Duke said, "Paulson is an idiot." He reversed the original plea to Congress that the money was needed to buy the bad assets of banks. Now he is going to buy stock in the banks. Can he deceive Congress and the American people like this? Perhaps, depending upon the wording of the legislation. The writers of legislation and bail out packages need to be explicit as to what is going to happen with $700 B of taxpayers money! Here is another troubling thought. The banks, auto companies, consumers with bad mortgages, cities, and towns all want bail out monies. Just how much is there to go around? Just how much tax burden can Americans take on in these troubled times? While I certainly don't have any answers, I want my government to be specific as to what can be done with my tax dollars. All of you guys here have your careers on the line. Your representatives need to be told that and more. No one died and made Paulson or Congress king. The sooner that they know this, the better. Keep the faith. Richard

[nippononly]: by boaz47 on Wed Nov 12 14:31:38 PST 2008; Well this particular powertrain has been around in Japanese Subarus for a number of years, so it's well tested and sorted by now, certainly by 2010 when they will deploy it in this new model. Still it is a Subaru and that powertrain is the one that has Subaru several places lower than Toyota in dependability studies. Subaru has some of the most loyal customers in the business but those aren't Toyota customers. It would be one thing if they were offering a Toyota powerplant in the Toyota Version but it will be not much more than a Rebadged Subaru. Can you imagine if they rebadged the Matrix with a Iron Duke rather than making the Vibe a rebadged Toyota? After all Pontiac, Mazda and GMC are rated higher in dependability by JD Powers. And Toyota is as proud of their dependability rating as they are of anything else.

[texases]: by andre1969 on Tue Nov 04 12:56:37 PST 2008; Our '84 Jeep Cherokee 4cyl supposedly had about 105 hp, IIRC, but performed nothing like the '84 Audi 5000 with very similar rated hp, and similar weight. The Jeep was a slug! Was that the old AMC lump of an inline-4, or the Pontiac Iron Duke lump of an inline-4? I think either way, they only had about 85-90 hp. It probably hit that peak around 4000-4400 rpm, and then dropped off fast. I don't know if Jeep was still using Chrysler 3-speed torqueflites by that time, but if they were, that was probably another strike against it. That same transmission could probably handle a 318-4bbl or a 360-2bbl, so a little 2.5 4-cyl probably had to work its little ass off to spin that transmission. I think they also had to use an adaptor kit to make the Torqueflite mate up to the 4-cyl, so that probably sapped some power as well. My 1985 Consumer Guide has a test of an Audi 5000, but I forget what kind of 0-60 time they got out of it. Probably 11-12 seconds. Well they also had a couple Jeeps in there. One was a 2.5/stick shift, while the other was a Chevy 2.8/3-speed auto, and I think the 4-cyl was actually quicker! Both times were around 17-18 seconds, though. (keep in mind that CG is sort of like CR, where their times are more conservative than what you might get with MT or C&D)
