Re: Regarding any bailout [euphonium]
by alltorque on Sat Sep 27 13:50:13 PDT 2008
Music Man. Yours are amongst the most sensible comments I have seen anywhere re this whole credit fiasco, (and it's refreshing to see the level of concensus here). A private business fails ? Tough. Try again - but not with public money. If they're such great businessmen they'll easily convince someone to bankroll them. If not, then they need to go and find a proper job like us ordinary folk. Neither the World, nor we, owe these folk a living. What happened to all the billions of $'s, £'s, €'s etc that these outfits made in profits through all the good years ? Did they give it all to charity and we missed it ? Don't think so. Never mind, our glorious leader - Gordon Brown - is in Washington to help you guys sort it out. Heaven help you. This is the guy who, for 10 years as UK Chancellor of The Exchequer, constantly said he was happy that "The City" did a good job of self-regulation. Now, as Prime Minister and faced with financial catastrophe, he wants firm and "proper" controls placed on "The City". er.......Horse, Door, The, Bolted, Closing, Has, Stable, After, The : re-arrange to form a well known phrase or saying, dumbo. More power to BECU and the other Credit Unions but please don't ever let the fat cats from Lehman, Goldman Sachs or the other robber barons get anywhere near them. Failure on this scale should carry a lifetime ban from holding an Executive position in any financial institution.................but it won't. Maybe there's a clue as to why in the fact that our previous Prime Minister - Tony Blair - resigned and then took up a, doubtless well paid, part-time post with J P Morgan, who are a................oh yeah, some sort of bank. Well, well, well. Still, I'm sure they hired him for his management brilliance. Thinking about it; he was actually pretty clever. He managed to leave office before the excrement hit the rotating air-moving machinery and left Gordon Brown facing said macinery. Sorry, have to stop now; getting perilously close to a rant. Time for a nice cup of tea I think, Jeeves, aka Mrs Alltorque. :) Ah, my beloved Mrs Alltorque has just suggested I do something with the teapot that would certainly bring tears to my eyes, at the very least. Hey ho, toodle pip.
Re: CHECK LIGHT ON TOD [speed328]
by btrottie on Fri Aug 15 16:41:37 PDT 2008
I had the same problem on my 1999 Trooper. I had the Flashing Check light on the TOD panel AND the Check Engine light was on steady...Want to know what the fix was??? No $1000 speed sensor job...the wiring that runs along the drive shaft was corroded and exposed....I had some new wiring put in and TADA! no more flashing TOD check light and no Check Engine light! /Blair :shades:
Re: The best hybrid battery longevity article I have ever read [larsb]
by gagrice on Fri May 30 21:38:41 PDT 2008
Seems there is more to your link. Still, hybrids don't hold their value as well as their gasoline-powered siblings, batteries aside. For example, a three-year-old Honda Civic is worth about $12,000, retaining about 60 percent of its original sticker price of $20,000, according to Blair. But a hybrid Honda Civic holds only 58 percent of its original sticker price after three years, giving it a used price of $13,630, down from a new price of $23,500. "The new car buyer is more into bells and whistles, while used car buyers are all about value," says Blair. "If a hybrid is near the end of its warranty, what could creep into the mind of the used car buyer is, 'I still have a doubt about the battery, and it's just one more big thing that could go wrong.'"
Re: vcm extended test drive [rodiron620]
by cstiles on Sat Mar 29 10:08:55 PDT 2008
I meant no sarcasm. (Okay, I admit the Linda Blair reference may have been slightly over the top.) At no time was I belittling the claims or frustrations. Regarding occupants being "thrown about violently", I was referring to those who claimed VCM shook so violently that their glasses got jarred off their heads. Or that VCM was akin to a 16 year trying to shift a manual transmission car for the first time. That it causes the car to surge without driver control. Some posts are accompanied by the "Lemon Car" emoticon, or with demands for a class action lawsuit. A reference to the Japanese always stonewalling in the face of a problem. These are all strong, emotionally-fueled descriptors. You may have made some of them yourself. So one person (very reasonably) suggested..."show me a video of this." (Heck, call it "Accords Gone Wild.") The overall response to that is "ridiculous....can't be witnessed in a video since it's just a sensation." Well, which is it? Do we really have a problem that remotely approaches the descriptors above? I own a VCM-equipped Honda, and never suggested that the system is seamless or unnoticed. It certainly is not that. But in my Honda it's a very subtle resonance only. Nothing close to the stories above. And I am approaching 41,000 miles. I also own a PAX runflat-equipped Honda, so I am well aware that Honda can make dopey mistakes (with good intentions). Hondas are not perfect. They have taken responsibility for a variety of design or quality gaffs in past models. The jury is still out and deliberating. We aren't seeing a lot of new posters come here and refer to problems with VCM. But I'm not saying they aren't out there, either.
