In Austin TX, we’ve had great service from Rising Sun on South Lamar. So far our repairs have been simple, but the price and repair time has been excellent.

No, Lamar Alexander was from Tennessee. Speaking of the dropout rate, there is a trick to it to deceive the public. After a child drops out, you go to the home and get him to come back to school for one day. Now he is re-entered and the dropout figure is erased. If he doesn't come back the second day, you are not required to count him as a dropout figure twice. My office used to hire temporary "Dropout Specialists" just for that purpose. Talk about your creative data entry. Here's another trick for you. To keep school test scores from looking bad to the public, you remove the dumbest students from required testing courses and place them in art or music classes. The following year, you place them back in the required courses and remove a few others to the art and music rooms. This calls for creative scheduling and secret bookkeeping. Some of my students used to disappear, and I wasn't allowed to ask where they went. We talk about the tricks of corporate America, but educational systems are no better. To stay on topic: We used to fail some students in Driver's Education so that the instructors could be assured of keeping their part-time jobs. The things that I saw in 40 years in education.
Cold

I went outside and was actually cold this evening. A cool front went through to the north and it's down to 75. It's been 90s here today and was in 90s down in JoelCountry for an extended weekend. :shades: We drove a car to get there and back. Was Lamar Alexander the Secretary of Education Bush brought from Texas. That one had done a wonderful job increasing the dropout rate in the county schools so GW brought him to Washington. :) Trouble was the computer system for the county schools was having the data altered to make it LOOK like more were graduating. Don't you love how these types manage their resumes! :P

I will test it. I drove the new Acura MDX to see how the upgraded Nav (upgraded to my 2yr old TL that is) functioned. By way of comparison, it has letter and number voice prompts, and can find streets when you say "Lamar" for instance, it pulls up the choices, then prompts you, so it does mean you do glance at the screen to see which Lamar is the right one. But they've come a long way in voice recognition to pull that off, I'd say. From there it prompted you to calc a route select the route you wanted and then started with directions. It also did allow direct programming while the car was moving, the sales rep did it from the pass. seat. It also has the real-time traffic updates with incident reports. That is all screen-based, so at some point the screen does draw your eye! I think I could get used to the voice-driven systems, that is likely the future, but I do prefer direct input (and I miss the touch screen but will likely get used to a turning knob, too). Probably not a deal killer either way or with either system, but am glad to discuss. Alpine is the maker of the nav system for Honda.

Thanks for the update, Steve. I also have an update. My dealer was able to hear the problem and didn't give me any grief. I printed out the posts on this site and Acurazine. That helped a lot. But.....he said tech line told him it could be the shift cables or the drive shaft and they have to do further testing to determine which one. (Of course, we know what the outcome will be!) They had to order a new bluetooth unit for my other problem (intermittent poor reception which, fortunately, showed up while there), and they said they would do more testing on the whine and order the necessary part(s) at that time. Seems like they could have avoided the hassle for me and for them, but it sounded like tech is making them do it. LaMar

Hi, Karen. Welcome to the group. You might want to have someone check the catalytic converter. The symptoms you describe are much like my '99 Sebring had a couple of years ago when we were driving across Eastern Colorado. The car would simply die without warning. It would sometimes go, but not more than about 5-10 MPH. Three dealers could not find the problem... one dealer even told me that you have to drive Chryslers at night because they can't operate in the heat in this part of the country. I couldn't believe a Chrysler dealer would tell me such garbage. Finally, a young man who runs a little garage in Lamar, Colorado, listened to it and said right away what the problem was. He installed a new converter and the car has run perfect since. And Daimler-Chrysler paid for the replacement because the converters have a longer warranty period than the rest of the car. It's worth checking. If that isn't it, have someone check the fuel filter, which causes some of the same symptoms. The fuel filter is inside the gas tank, so have fun checking it.
