Sorry but....

The Aveo still reeks and is essentially a rebadged Daewoo. It's truly awful. Granted the Suzuki Reno is also a bad car and also a Daewoo. The FJ Cruiser has poor visibility that's a fact but it's not really ugly and it's extremely reliable. Poor sales due to low fuel economy. I don't think the Dodges are all that ugly either. Some less than others, but overall not horrible. The Aveo is a real competitor to the Yugo and is about as reliable. It's ugly, unreliable, uncomfortable and gets poor fuel economy. I would give a Nod also to the Suzuki Reno as another piece of rebadged crap. Why can't Suzuki bring the Swift Sport to the US? Besides a Truck isn't a car and most trucks look Butch, and most look like trucks. The SmartCar is also another ugly car and I like hatchbacks! I hate VW's because of poor reliability but I like the look of the Golf and the new Jetta Sportwagen. The Smart Car is a waste of money but some people like the look, it's retro-futuristic. All it needs is Woody Allen to make it complete. Aveo = Total Crap Yugo Wannabe

I'm in agreement with you. Worst should be unattractive, unreliable and not sell well. You really want it to lay a total egg. Grant you ont every year can produce an Edsel or an Aztek but we should identify those clearly trying to.

>UAW workers not responsible for decline of American brands. That rests entirely with high management. Eh? No. UAW asked for excesses. Management provided them with such. Both should take the fall. I repeat again. Government should mandate minimum wage to all employees, no bonuses, and bail them out. If any employee thinks he can do better somewhere else, let him test his skills out. My guess is that most employess will stay put because they will be good for nothing by now, having worked for so long under the "UAW" protection, and taking their jobs for granted. The US is a capitalistic market.
Re: Advice on price? [simple9rts]

Simple9rts, This may go without saying, but I wouldn't give any indication to the dealer that they are the only dealer you're talking to. You lose all negotiating leverage once they know that. My only other thought is that perhaps you should talk with other dealers. Find the best price without mentioning your color preference. Once you've found a price you're comfortable with, hit them with your color requirement and see if they can get it for you. (This will all be complicated by the fact that you're looking for an '08. What about an '09?) This essentially is what happened when I bought my Civic. I negotiated everything online (including color). Long story short: The dealer I purchased from had to get the color I wanted from another dealership. (Granted, the other dealership was a lot close than 200 miles!) Anyway... Hope this helps. Good luck!

"Thank so much for the reply Shipo. Is it very difficult to learn to drive with manual transmission. I have many males friends like manual transmission. They say it is fun. how can I start?any tips?" Is it very difficult to learn to drive a stick? Hmmm, I don't remember it being all that difficult to get the basics of driving a stick; granted I learned how to do that some three decades ago and my memory of the process may be a bit fuzzy. :shades: As for learning, the basic start-stop process is best learned in an empty parking lot with an experienced stick-shift driver as copilot. Once you get the hang of starting and stopping, you will graduate to the streets where your education will continue. I've found that if you are at all in tune with mechanical devices, learning a stick is easier, however, I've taught many folks over the years, and even the most non-mechanically inclined people can get the hang of it and then eventually master it Before you take the plunge and buy a car one way or another, you might want to tag one of your friends and ask them to give you a couple of lessons. You should know within an hour or two how easily it will come to you. Keep us posted, Best regards, Shipo
Re: gear head bailout [gagrice]
by circlew on Sun Nov 16 17:27:22 PST 2008
Over 3 million people are out of work currently in the U.S. Where is their bailout? Unemployment? OK, the UAW members can get unemployment too. For the past three weeks, U.S. continuing jobless claims averaged 3.7 million, the highest figures since June 2003. In the meantime, let the chips fall where they may. Either way, jobs need to go. Any other plan that does not face this reality is a waste and prolong this necessary evil. Pay now or later. The industry will be downsized Gov't bailout or not. Funny how the management of the car companies and the all-knowing pundits say bankruptcy is sheer disaster and no one will buy their cars in Ch. 11. Well, wake up and smell the COFFEE! No one is going to buy these cars because of all the press regarding a bailout either. Let's see what the Big 3 sell in November. No sale, cut expenses and the products that do not sell. I never learned: no sale, ask for government help? What the heck are we turning into? The line is forming behind closed doors as we speak! I will apply for a Government Grant to start an auto company as long as I get part of the T.A.R.P. to support failure. It's a Win/Win. No risk! Guess who's assets I will buy for pennies/dollar?? Regards, OW
