Re: 2008 Avalon Linited gas mileage [tkevinc1]
by tfelton on Wed Aug 20 12:38:19 PDT 2008
Just to jump in here with my 2 cents;, a couple of months ago we drove to Utah in an '08 Avalon Ltd. I did a test. From Hot Springs, AR to Shawnee, OK (just east of OK City) I did the speed limit (75 on I40 in OK) and coming back from El Reno, OK (just west of OK City) to Hot Springs, AR, I did 5 miles under the speed limit. Neither way was there any traffic to speak of. I got better mileage at the speed limit: 31.3 vs 30.8 at 5 miles below. Of course this is very unscientific and there are a lot of variables and I don't know if I was using anything with ethanol; all though, in Hot Springs it was Valero and in El Reno it was Murphy (Wal-Mart). As far as the overall trip is concerned we drove for 10 days, 4 days of which was city driving and 2 days of mountain driving in CO. That gave us an overall of 29.8 mpg. Also, when I fill up I squeeze in as much as I can.

-1 MPG, for the AWD. AWD is great for slick roads as well as snow. But perhaps you don't ski. Anyway, check a wider area. I know the Nissan Dealer in Indio/La Quinta has some, and some other dealers in South County OC. I would also check the big Nissan shop in El Monte, but I can't remember their name. ;)
Stalling on highway
by gmiller1 on Sat Dec 17 10:32:43 PST 2005
I have a 1994 ford escort 1.9L. The car stalled on the highway recently and went totally dead. Mechanic said it was the battery and not the alternator. Changed it out, and ran well for a month. THen same thing on highway, was hitting preset button on radio and the car staleld out going 70 mph on highway. Won't start now, but have all the electrical features. Dashboard lights say "Check Engine" and "Fuel Cutoff". Is this the fuel filter ro fuel pump... :confuse:
Trac light OFF, ON, OFF, ON

It's on at the moment and if it is on at startup tomorrow it's back to the dealer 35 miles out in the country, El Reno, Oklahoma. After returning from the dealer service department it was on then off and operating properly, then on again. I run the shift lever back and forth, parking brake on an off, punching the ETS switch, none of this affects anything. But with the light off everything seems normal. cpwingnut: There are some post as to the un-effectivness of the tornado. And when you think about the cost of producing these is about $1.50 to $3.00. If it sounds too good to be true it no doubt is. After all the money I've spent on this junk I'm becoming a skeptic. Some that worked in the old carburetor days. Vapor injection increased mileage but was not good for long engine life. Fuel pressure regulator with electric fuel pump kept the fuel level lower in the bowl resulting in a little better fuel mileage. Mothballs in the fuel line increased fuel mileage. Driving with a vacuum gauge worked then and does today with modern technology. Most have a bad side effect like modern prescription medicine, where the side effects are worse than the original ailment.

If Winnie-the-Poo and this heat don't break your CD, nothing will! One way to get rid of the pop/crack noise in the center cab area under your driver's seat is to have the dealer loosen the cab bolts and put gobs of grease on the carpet .... sorry .... couldn't resist that. Hope they fix it for you. My wife had good luck with some service work on a Mercury Villager at Diffee's in El Reno. We had never used them before but wife had a great experience. I tried to buy my truck from them last Fall, but they wanted $1500 over invoice and wouldn't budge. We bought Lincolns and Mercurys from Fred Jones in Oky City since the late 70's. Three years ago they screwed us over on a few service jobs .... about the same time they bought up most of the Ford dealerships in the City .... so I will never deal with them again. Happy Motoring!
Nissian=quality=Toyota ,really?

If you think the Japan auto makers have the quality issue all locked up well you should buy my old 89 Camery with the $3200 auto trany,the sun roof with the $107x2 cables,the heater bipass tube ($62)that runs under the intake manifold,with its $80 gaskets, that has to be removed to get to the bipass tube,the $200 auto antenna,the $23 ball joints,the other coolant tube that was $29 (and only god knows what it did),the $50 timing belt,the radio $? that didn't work,the$50 water pump,and there is more but I can't remember all of it.Then add the labor and you are talking some big bucks.All this in 150,000 miles.I DID THE LABOR, and I drove it off the show room floor as a new car.I'm glad to be rid of it.My 96 Ford F-350 4x4 crewcab now has 39'000 with only one problem (a bad sending unit for the water temp gauge).My wifes 2000 4x4 DODGE CREWCAB with its 4.7 V8 at 4500 miles has performed with out a problem.NEVER NEVER NEVER sell U.S. made products short. We won the war,we are a free country and competition will keep us off our butt, bring it on,if its worthy it will sell.We have an open market and the market will tell the story. I owned a 74 Datsun truck for a few years back in my youth and it was a good truck.It got backed into and I found out how thin steel could be made.Japan makes there vehicles out of the thinest metal on the plant.Thats one of the ways to get good gas mileage.But its like the soda can you drink from,when its empty it goes in the garbage. I bought a 83 Toyota 4X4 new and I still own it.Its ben good to me. It lives in El Salvador C.A. now. I travel there in the winter to surf the uncrowded surf spots.When it lived here in the states it traveled the winter roads between Reno and the ski resorts around Lake Tahoe and Truckee.I've always had a season ski pass some place.Salt was not very nice to that Toyota.It's getting up around 195,000 miles on it now.I'm not going to go through It's list of things gone bad but there is a list. I have a family now and my daughter and wife will not be riding in vehicles made with the thinest metal on the plant.The U.S. makes some cars like that now too,but my family will not be riding in a vehicle such as that.It's my opinion and my experience that tell me this and that aint no bull.
