2008 Honda CRV LX AWD
by sjf2 on Thu Oct 02 10:39:59 PDT 2008
We purchased a 2008 Honda CRV LX AWD on 9/30/08 in Calumet City, IL (River Oaks Honda) for $19,600 + destination + TT&L. We initially emailed 15+ dealers in our area (Chicago area) for quotes, and went to the dealer that quoted us the lowest price. Although we had a $19.1k quote on paper upon arrival (broken down with fee amounts, etc.) the dealership sales manager (Danen?) told us upon arrival that all of the vehicles at the dealership were equipped with $1,200 of add-ons, which had to be added to the sales price. We ended up negotiating to our end price of $19.6k due to the add ons (still $200 less than the 2nd best quote we received online). Overall, the dealership did seem a bit sketchy due to the "add-ons" that we were not interested in but ultimately we received what we felt was a good price.

The 2008 Pilot is selling fast, but you can still get a great deal if you can find one. We just purchased a 2008 EXL 4x4 w/aftermarket DVD and remote starter (wanted the factory dvd but could not find it in the color we wanted). It also has rear mudflaps, wheel locks, cargo mat and dealer installed paint protection -- these are all features we were not looking for but were already on the car. Purchase price: 27,362 With 670 destination, 150 Doc fee + T.T.L. There was also a 25 dollar optional electronic filling fee that I did not worry about (could have fought that charge) but I felt good about the price. I got internet quotes and after going to the dealer with the lowest price, they played their dealer games and tried to increase the price and used usual tactics to try and close on another car. They promised to deliver, but after putting up with their B.S. for one day I shopped around using their low price and found the car in the color we wanted. There was no negotiating and no pressure. We received the same price for the features we wanted and some extra perks thrown in (see previous mentioned add ons). We got what we felt was a fair price and the dealer made a good profit...all this on a car that is selling fast and furious. Be aggressive in your search and firm in your price and you will also find a fair deal. You could upgrade to the 2009 using the same internet quote tactic to get the best price, but for us it did not make sense to pay an extra 5000 for a new design and minor upgrades. P.S. Received internet quote of 33,145 no destination charge and remote starter included on 2009 EXL w/RES Avoid River Oaks Honda in Calumet City...original low internet quote. Planet Honda in Matteson, IL was great, no pressure, no games, great service before, through and after the sale. Good luck!

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago with a Kansas dealership, but I am not sure if the state laws are the same. Anyway... (rounding the numbers) Purchased a truck from X dealership for $25,000, traded in a late model truck for 5,000. Financed through my bank for 20k. Everything so far is okay. I have the temp tags, says he will mail me the title, okay fine. I wait for the title, 2,3,4 weeks go by, temp tags are expired, and I can't register the vehicle. I make dozens of attempts to contact the dealer about this, he is just giving me the run around. The dealership is located about 2 hrs away, so just dropping by is not an option. Finally get GM on the phone, I explain the situation to him, he tells me I will get the title when I get it. Fine, then I explain that I just want my traded truck back and will return his new truck. he says not a chance. What to do. I contact the Attorney Generals office and explain the situation. Attorney general contacts the dealership. What I didn't know at the time is that if you don't receive the Title in 30 days then you have the option of simply returning the vehicle and the dealer must return you your money. I think he was just a shady dealer and never had possession of the title of the truck he sold me yet. I also got a check for the price of my traded vehicle since he had already sold it. I at least broke even on the deal. No dealership wants to battle the state's Attorney Generals Office.

They come back with 13.99% interest rate. Appalled, we laughed, at which point they came back with 10.99%, no, wait 9%....We decided to finance with our banker rather than go through them (one week later, talking to the manager, he says he could of gotten us 7%....odd how it takes a week for him to find that rate!). We left the lot that night with the car (and w/o putting a downpayment down!). Interestingly, we encounter a similar situation here in SC. Finance mgr came back initially with 7.4 percent. I said I will finance through my credit union at 6.2 percent. In less than 5 minutes, literally, after some number crunching with a 5.9 percent rate at 60 months. So, I think we got a pretty good rate, but they were set to make 1,200 on the difference in rates over the life of the loan! So I feel I saved another 1,200! jg

Sorry to hear about your experience, dobber2... definately NOT the way to inspire customer confidence. If you don't mind telling us, what did you end up paying for your Santa Fe ("out the door price")? Also, is it an SE or Limited AWD model? - Frank.
