At least Ford doesn't have 6 different domestic nameplates weighing them down as GM does (Chevy,Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac,GMC, Hummer). But, G.G., all that is irelevent. They didn't need all these lines but GM had to maintain their franchise dealer agreements...it cost them more wasted $$$s to get out of Oldsmobile. We can't undo what has been done. Question is what do we do now? Maybe a Chapt 11 would at least let them reorganize and get rid of some major problems. They could continue but be much smaller. At lest the answer to last years site "Will styling save GM?" will soon be answered, just one year later.
2009 48hrs of Tristate Official Info

That's right folks, it's that time of the year again, when we all break out of the winter blues of no car shows, no auto-x, no road racing, no drag strips and head out on the open highway for a good cause. This is the 8th Annual running where a group of Subaru enthusiasts from all over the TriState area take a 3 day long trip covering about 48hrs of driving overall from Subaru Headquarters in NJ to the wintery snow of the Adirondacks. This year we are planning on about 900 miles of highways, backroads and no roads with dinners and partys every night. We also will be visiting SOA headquarters in Cherry Hill, NJ we will also be visiting Subaru Distributors Corp, the company that distributed most of our cars, and Vermont Sports Car where they build rally cars for SOA. Last year we raised over $13,000 for the American Cancer Society from pledges that the participants gathered and SOA's matching donations! Our goal this year is to raise over $8,000 for ACS. The trip will start with a dinner kickoff in Cherry Hill, NJ on Thurs Night Jan 15, 2008. We will continue on Friday morning with a visit to Subaru of America Headquarters for breakfast and then the drive will take our Subies up to SDC Headquarters for a catered lunch. Friday night we end in Burlington, VT. Saturday morning we have a tour of Vermont Sports Car planned, a treat for any Rally fans out there. Sat night after cruising the Northern Adirondacks we will end up at Dunham's Bay Resort in Lake George for our Raffle Banquet. Sunday will take us down through central NYS ending at our closing dinner meet in Scranton, PA All kinds of Subies are welcome on this trip. We've had XT6s, GLs, DLs, Legacies, Brats, you name it! Several companies also have provided us with door prizes for those participating! In past years we've had $1000s and $1000s worth of raffle prizes! The important info: What: Group drive to raise money for ACS and have a fun 900+ mile trip along the way. Where: Starts in Cherry Hill, NJ and continues throughout NJ and NY with stops in Burlington, VT the Adirondacks, Lake George and Scranton, PA When: Jan 15- Jan 18, 2009 More info: 48hrs of Tristate Highlights…. o Tour of VT Sports Car facility, where they build the Subaru Rally Cars (Awaiting Official Confirmation) o SPT will have the SEMA Forester XTI and Rescue Vehicles on hand at SOA for us to check out for ourselves o Biggest, Best Raffle Banquet o SDC will be giving away in excess of $4,000 in prizes this year! o Catered Breakfast at SOA and possibly a tour of the Subaru Museum of Cars o Catered Lunch at SDC

Sometimes you run into unreasonable buyers. They like the world (market) to stop for them while they shop around, but won't have the courtesy of calling you back if they find another deal (better or worse or different). Once I bought a Jeep. I liked the dealer that showed it to me originally and I was ready to buy but I wanted the lease payments to be $25 a month less. Said he wouldn't come down. Had an idea...called the auto club and they sent me to their best price dealer. With no effort they gave me a price $50 a month less and the buy back was $1500 lower at the end of the lease. I called the first guy and explained I am sorry but I bought it somewhere else...I did feel bad. He wasn't very nice about it and I think I would have been better off not calling. The final insult was the dealer I bought from took the car from the first guys lot...right color and equipment. And then there's the ones that say "call me when you're about to sell it" I'm thinking, and you'll do what then... put in an offer.... if you want it buy it now. This I do not get. Must be a jealousy complex. I only want it if someone else is going to buy it. Also, I didn't want to pay that much but since someone else will I guess it must be worth it?????? Same as the study that says if you are waiting for a parking space, the man or woman in it, will drive out slower, if they know someone wants their space.....all of a sudden it becomes more valuable :confuse:

Chiko....There was a time when the Stanley Steamer was unique and relevant, too. Today? Not hardly! The relevance is that history repeats iteslf. The end of the Stanley Steamer, Oldsmobile, Hudson, Studebaker, Plymouth might be as relevant as the loss of GM, Ford and/or Chrysler will be 10 years from now. :surprise:
Re: No issues (yet) with RFTs [mjbauer]
by driver100 on Mon Nov 17 06:36:45 PST 2008
So far the RFT's have worked very well for me so this short note is just my $.02 worth I am new here but just wanted to add my thoughts. They didn't explain that our (my wifes 335xi and my 328 Cabriolet) would have RFT until after we bought the cars and we were talked into insurance at $500 a car. I would rather have had a choice, I would have gone with regular tires, but my car has about 10,000 miles and my wife's 12000 miles and I can't say I noticed a difference yet. But the next issue, which I didn't think of at the time was snow tires. I called tire stores first, thinking BMW dealer is going to rip me off once again, but BMW price was actually better....and tire stores weren't that knowledgeable...in fact could be dangerous. I asked one if I really needed rims and he said not really, it's easier and less expensive to change over each season. This is not true as BMW explained and I'll explain later. This dealer told me snow tires could be under $200 each ($150 U.S.) but then I asked him if they were RFT's. He said no, those would cost $500 each and about $200 for steel rims ($400 U.S. and $150 U.S.). Then I checked BMW dealer. Special winter package. For $1700 ($1300 U.S.) they would put on 4 Blizzack RFT's, installed ($100) balanced etc., on steel rims, and with 4 covers to carry my other tires, and put 2 in the trunk and two on the back seat to take home. They said RFT's should really be on rims because removing a tire from the rim causes wear on the tire but especially with run flats because of the stronger sidewalls. What I don't understand is why I can get 4 tires on rims installed etc. for a total of $1700 when the tires were supposed to be almost $500 each when they sold the insurance program, unless they have come down a lot. By the way Blizzack are good, but Dunlop and Michelin have snow tires made out of similar compounds but they will last twice as long. Hope that helps someone out there :)

and I am quite "inane"... Did you think that was a spelling mistake...left out the "s" after the 1st "n"? :P Actually if you two do get together I think there are other sites for that kind of thing, if you know what I mean......
