It will sell, if Lutz isn't the pitch man
by morey000 on Sat Sep 20 05:52:48 PDT 2008
Wow- that Steven Colbert interview with Bob Lutz made Lutz look like a dottering old fool. He was stammering, wasn't witty, and didn't seem to have the quick tag lines down about the car. He could have done so much better. GM should have sent one of their younger marketing guys. What is this guy doing leading GM?

hoyahenry, Its a step in the right direction. Remember that the cost has to be affordable, and, yes, GM can and has built fuel cell prototypes powered by hydrogen, which comes from natural gas, and various other prototypes. Trouble is the cost of such a vehicle would be $100,000 each and GM wouldn't sell enough of them. Remember that gas/diesel/naturalgas is still the most energy dense on-board storage method available, as pure batteries are still too expensive as well. We engineers face the cost/performance equation constantly. What we can do is often just too expensive. I'm now listening to Bob Lutz talk to Steven Colbert on the Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Colbert just asked Lutz if he could plug the future Volt into Colbert's Hummer (like he has one..) and Lutz said, truthfully, "yes, the Hummer has a 115v AC outlet which can recharge the Volt". There is a joke in there somewhere.

I think most people watch the news when they get up in the morning. Either we're all crazy or that's not so crazy afterall. I admit to occasionally watching Squawk Box in the morning, but I can't stand 99% of the talking news heads. That said, I never miss Keith Olbermann's show, the Daily Show, and of course Mr. Colbert.

Colbert Tells the Truth

Colbert has declined interviews during the writers strike that has shuttered his show, but he told The Associated Press by e-mail: "In receiving this award, I am pleased that I was chosen over two great spinners of fantasy — J.K. Rowling and Al Gore. It is truly an honor to be named the Associated Press' Celebrity of the Year. from: http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2007-12-21-colbert-ap_N.htm

Well, hello there snipster! (what?...that's mispelled??????) I might not fight you on your following "typo" :) What... the SUV's that are needed don't pollute excessively, have a tendancy to roll over... or steal the crumple zones of other vehicles in accidents? Ok, I'll bite :)...... First, we'd need a definition of "pollute excessively"....does this: pollute excessively? Does it depend on whether it's carrying 400 tons of cargo or 2 bags of groceries and a hockey stick? Just curious :) ps: I lament that "stealing crumple zones" didn't quite make the lexiconic impact of Colbert's "truthiness"....perhaps it's not too late to get him or Stewart to put it on the show. Nothing like delusions of grandeur to start the day :)
