I went through a phase when I wanted that car, too. My buddy ended up buying another Diamond Jubilee that only had about 11,000 miles on it and looked almost brand-new, discovering that it's much cheaper to just buy a car that's already pristine, rather than trying to start with one that's not so great to begin with and try to improve it. He had talked about selling it a couple years ago, for maybe $3-4K...back when it was still running. It's a shame the engine blew up on him. I drove the car a couple times when he first got it, and it was a nice running car. It wasn't so impressive from, say, 0-60...probably because even though the engine was built up, it still had the tall 2.50:1 stock rear-end holding it back. But then it would hit 60 and just keep on going. Passing power was excellent, as well, although the thing was so danged bouncy that it could get kinda scary when driven fast. Try to dart into the passing lane real fast to pass some slower traffic and the car would do it, but the way it leaned would just exaggerate the experience. I used to think that if I ever wanted to get one of these big boats, I'd really want the 460. But the more I think about it, if I had one, it's not like I'd take it drag racing. I think the 400 only had 159 hp by 1979, which sounds awful when you figure the Mark V and Continental sedan/coupe probably weighed about 5,000 lb. But I guess it was still torquey enough to get the job done.

Unfortunately around here it is not uncommon to see some idiot floor it and make a left turn infront of oncoming traffic the second the light turns green. For my guy of the day, I am at a light in the left lane, the right lane ends about 100 feet after the intersection. The car in the right land keeps inching out further and further until he is almost completely in the intersection when the light turns green. Ok so the light turns green and I start to go but not to fast (RPM's never went above 3K) and the guy who wanted to get ahead of me just sits there. :confuse:

Was a few cars behind someone at a stop light, light turns green with NO left turn arrow and the first cars just starts out and makes the left turn right in front of on coming traffic. I'll admit I have done this before. But, only if the car in the opposing lane hesitates and the intersection is "loose" enough to permit this maneuver... only for the experienced driver.

A few fun people today. First was a Buick Lucerne LLCing on I90 about 20 miles east of Seattle. He did eventually move over after a mile or two. The driver was 80 at the very least, and I am pretty sure his dad was the passenger. Got behind a pristine older 5er in a roundabout with a license plate frame that suggested he was a car enthusiast. Well, he couldn't handle the roundabout. He had some panic and abruptly stopped in it (it was empty, thankfully) then made a wobbly lane change and exited. Then I was out at a 4 way stop, a young woman in a Civic hybrid was directly across from me, having arrived there first. She started to move directly forward, so I start to pull out and turn right. Then she guns it and abruptly turns left, so I was able to stop and let her past. No signal, no acknowledgment. A few blocks later she turned again, no signal of course. Oh, and can Siennas and Odysseys go around corners at more than 8mph?

RE: Torque-steer. For the AWD there is a hint of it when you push it hard, but then you can feel the AWD kick in to compensate while you are on the throttle. In general the reviews out there sums up the AWD pretty well. I did not push the FWD that hard last time, so I cannot say how bad the Torque-steer was. RE: Accel #'s. I'm just a bit surprised that the SHAWD had such nominal gains over the FWD (both Insideline and R&T stated such in their new reviews). While the 0-60 was lower by 0.4s comparing the FWD(insideline) to the AWD(R&T), the 1/4mi was only differed by 0.1s. Slalom and lateral accel #'s are marginally better than the FWD with base tires, and essentially the same as the TL-S 6MT. So it's really hard to figure out how much is the AWD vs the 19" summer tires. Essentially, Acura is expecting us to pay $3K+ for minization of torque steer and a more sporty handling feel that translates into small gains on the test track. I'm not sure if this will win over previous BMW/infinti owners, and am not sure if it helps that much to retain previous TL owners. The AWD performance "gain" comes at the price of slightly worse MPG, heavier weight, and smaller trunk space. Now I find myself drifting back to the base TL and having to decide if the performance inferiority to say the Infiniti G37 is worth the slightly better interior package and rear seating space. Although one may argue that G37's Navi is just as good if not better (lane assist, 3D buildings, etc). RE: the TSX V6, I'm not sure how much better the 0-60 might be due to torque-steer limitations in the FWD set-up. Perhaps 1/4mi and 50-70 numbers might be improved.
