Re: Has anyone bought/leased a Flex yet? [hondaneed]
by rgurta on Tue Aug 26 12:04:34 PDT 2008
I bought a 2009 FWD Flex SEL on July 11th and love it. I am getting 20.6 mpg. I bought it under the Ford employee purchase plan instead of buying a 2008 Saturn Outlook under the GM employee purchase plan. The Flex is better equipt and the drive out the door price was $4259 less than the Outlook. There were dealer installed options on it and I told the dealer that I would not pay for that or else he could order me one from the factory and not have the dealer install undercoating and interior and exterior coatings. I got the one the dealer had and he did not charge me for the options. My advice is to not price a Flex until the last week of the month and not to buy it on your first visit. The dealer will give you a better deal when the end of the month approaches because they want to increase monthly sales figures. Their floor plan or inventory financing by their lending institutions depends on it. Especially in this climate of soft auto sales. Also, you can save a bundle if you get your own financing. Check out the credit unions. The Flex is towable all four wheels down behind my motor home. The outside dimensions are almost the same as my Ford Freestyle but seems to be much roomier and the quality is excellent.

I have had my Flex for about six weeks now and have 1000 fun filled miles on it. My current gas mileage is 20.6 in mixed driving.

I did not like the looks of the Flex when it was first shown as a Fairlane. Somehow I got used to the looks of the Flex and now it suits me fine. It is surprising how many people have asked to see my car and how they are impressed with it. I have never had a car that turned so many people's heads. I wonder why Ford does not advertise this car. I traded in a Freestyle and I loved this car too. Ford didn't advertise this car either. It was a great car and roomy. My friends all were impressed with the car and some had bought one just because they had seen mine. The reason that I traded cars was because I could not pull the Freestyle behind my motor home. The Flex is towable all four wheels down.

I was on my way to buy a 2008 Saturn Outlook and stopped by the Ford dealer just to look around. I saw and fell in love with the Flex and bought it instead. The drive out price for the Flex was $4259 cheaper than the 2008 Outlook. i have had the car for a few weeks and it is an amazing vehicle. So far I am averaging 20.4 mpg in mixed city and highway driving (mostly rural). I love the Sirius radio and bluetooth capability. The only things that bother me is the front seat headrests. There is no comfortable position for them and they tend to force my head forward. I have since removed the headrests and rotated them 180 degrees and reinstalled them. The two captain chairs in the middle row need armrests.
White and Silver

There seemed to be a lot of silver and white ones at the dealer I bought from in Fort Walton Beach, Florida - I do think folks here go for the ligher colors because of heat/sun issues. I don't recall seeing more than one or two indigo trucks on the lot at the same time when I was looking. I ended up with and indigo ink pearl truck. I almost for a black one, but it sold a few days before I did the deed. Ironically, to someone near me in Navarre. The dark blue is quite a contrast to my old truck, which was a gold Mazda B3000... Wayne p.s. I do see a good number of the Speedway Blue trucks on the road around here

The Avalon is gorgeous and has a bright Gold paint finish. The grillwork makes it look more like an Audi. That grill is nice, wish I could get one for my white Avy.
