Re: Uncomfortable seats [steve_]
by jayrider on Sat Nov 08 08:34:46 PST 2008
We are in the process of selling our 2002 chrysler concorde ltd and the seats are the best I have found in any car. The new chrysler models seem to be skimping on size and support --- must save a few bucks. We will miss the chrysler seating but the murano is just fine.
Chrysler Concorde Battery Drain, FYI
by jparke8 on Mon Oct 20 12:34:02 PDT 2008
FYI: Recently I encountered a battery drain on my 2002 Chrysler Concorde. Using a volt meter setup for amps connected in series with the ground terminal of the Battery cable. I discovered the drain amounted to slightly more than 2 amps. Utilizing the fuse removal method, I discovered that the removal of fuse 18 (Horn/Amplifier) located in the inside fuse box. This fuse box is behind a pull panel on the side of the dash and can only be accessed when the door is open. The 2 amp drain would go away. Remember when searching for a drain on later model cars you must allow enough time for the automobile to go into sleep mode. This may take a much as a minute. The total current drain on the 2002 Concorde after the sleep mode is reached is about .014 amps. Most information I found said that an automobile in the sleep mode should be less that .025 amps. I checked the horn circuit by unplugging the horn relay. This did not isolate the problem. After consulting an automobile forum, I was able to locate the amplifier (audio) on the passenger side kick plate behind the glove compartment. When I removed the connector to the audio amplifier the 2 amp drain disappeared. When I consulted the Dealership I found that a new audio amplifier is around $300.00. Checking with local junk yard and eBay I was able to find them for around $100.00. At this time I needed my vehicle and didn’t want to do without a radio. So I removed the amplifier card from the case in order to determine which component may be causing the problem. Since the current drain was only about 2 amps it was not obvious which component had failed. About the time my problem started I notice that my right rear speaker not sounding good. When I discovered the audio amp problem I new the two were related. In order to determine which component was bad I connected the amplifier card to it’s connector with out using the case which serves as a heat sink for the amplifier chips. With the switch off one of the amplifier chips instantly over heated. I immediately removed the connector so as not cause any more harm to the amplifier card. In order that I may have use of my car and have a radio, I removed the component from the board using a pair of small diagonal pliers. I am sure this would not be recommended by the dealer. However I am a technician with an electronics background not to mention I had nothing to loose, it worked. I will just have to do without one speaker until I can replace the audio amplifier. After more research I have discovered that this amplifier is used in many year and models of Chrysler ranging from 1998 to present. The Chrysler part number is P04760293AD.

"I hate sounding stupid,but..." You ask a logical question. Here's my understanding of "cab forward": It's a term, although not necessarily a concept applied by Chrysler Corp. to the design of its all-new '93 Chrysler Concord, Eagle Vision, and Dodge Intrepid front wheel drive large cars. In contrast to a relatively long hood and short rear deck design, or a normal length hood and rear deck, the cab forward design attempted to maximize passenger space, especially, and also trunk space, by featuring a relatively short hood and a steeply sloping windshield. I believe another feature of this design was to make track wider, relative to the width of the car. Chrysler's cab forward '93 cars were notably larger and, arguably sleeker than previous ground breaking FWD designs, such as the first and second generation ('87-'91 and '92-'95) Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable I think the use of the cab forward term had as much to do with marketing as with configuration, because one could argue that the Honda Accords and Civics of the mid-late '80s and early '90s featured similar design language, but Honda didn't employ the cab forward term to their styling. For all the many quality issues that plagued the domestic models of the '80s and '90s, many featured innovative styling (eg. GM's '85 large bodies, Ford's '83 T-bird and '87 Taurus, and Chrysler's Cab Forward and '95 "Cloud Cars" [Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus]).
Re: Fix of Popping Noise in 2006 Steering Column [dtown]
by ceeckar on Sun Oct 12 16:57:26 PDT 2008
I took my 2006 Rav4 into the dealership on Saturday due to the popping noise. The service writer never mentioned that there was a service bulletin out on it. He and the mechanic acted as though they had never heard of the problem. Said they could replace the shaft with a new improved version for $698. I said if it isn't going to cause the car to break down or lead to other problems, I wasn't going to get it repaired that day. While I waited for tires to be replaced, the service writer came out and told me that the service manager was willing to split the cost with me. So in 10-15 minutes the cost went from $698 to $349 but they would only honor that price if I had the work done prior to 50,000 miles (I'm at 42,200 now). 50% discount immediately made me suspiscus. I saw on the service bulletin that it was covered under the comprehensive warranty (36 mos or 36,000 miles). I think I'll still pay a visit back to Toyota of Concord (NC).
Re: new prius quotes [joobee]

Check out Ron Cooper at Concord Toyota, 1090 Concord Avenue, Concord, CA 94520. He quoted me - on paper - $700 below dealer invoice on a Prius with the #6 package; forget that MSRP number. In my opinion, the Prius isn't that special when you consider the premium price tag and the replacement cost of batteries. Just alot of green-hype and there are plenty of other options that will also do the job. I drove the Prius and it is a nice car. Just not sure for the price I want to drive around on a car that seems like it has doughnuts for wheels after having driven an SUV for years. I am checking out all options before I buy. Ron is a great guy, a straight talker, and there is absolutely no pressure. Good luck - Victoria

I remember Lions Drag Strip in So.Cal. 1969 and we could hold the chainlink fence 5 feet from the rollers that spun the slicks to start the engines.671 blowers were flying like frisbees every Sat.night.I'm 54 now and had the pleasure to watch the qualifying at the new Z Max Dragway in Concord N. Carolina this weekend.I was giggling like a 5 year old.I don't remember my chest caving in when they lit those old Hemi's.WOW. That has to be as close to destruction as any man made machine could possibly be.Most of the crowd seemed so, so, I don't know....bored.Maybe they had no idea of what it means to keep these things contained in their Kevlar blankets.John Force had a grandstand named after him.I couldn't help but wonder how long he's gonna limp as he climbs into his hot rod.I wish Mario or maby A.J would talk to him.
