Average after 12000 miles of driving
by hammer19 on Sun Sep 14 09:43:05 PDT 2008
I've been averaging around 20 US mpg for day-to-day driving around town. We just came back from a highway trek from Southern Ontario to Southern Indiana on mostly interstates and managed at best 25 US mpg on the highway. I think that Hyundai like most car companies overstates their MPG's on most of their cars because they derive those numbers from "controlled testing" not real-world testing for obvious reasons. I'm generally happy with those numbers, but at $5.10 per US gallon up here in Canada, it's costing me over $70.00/week to keep it gassed up. Also our dealers up here are not very good....had an 18" rubber "squeegy-like" blade fall out of my sunroof and they had no idea what it was or how to put it back, which is astonishing!! I will not be keeping this vehicle beyond the 5-year financing period since I'm worried that I will have no one to properly service it if something more substantial goes wrong with it. Plus, I need to think about gasoline prices in the future, so I will likely look to a smaller car (maybe Honda?) next time.
After Market Stereo with Steering Wheel Controls?
by hammer19 on Fri Feb 15 06:06:17 PST 2008
I've been contemplating upgrading my 2007 Santa Fe's stereo. The factory one I currently have is pretty basic with the MP3, single-play CD and no built-in XM Radio. I want to use my iPod and get rid of MP3 discs altogether, so I have been looking at Alpine iPod-friendly units, plus I've seen some info on adapters that allow you to still use the steering wheel controls. I've currently got a nice Alpine deck in my '03 Maxima SE but it doesn't have an adapter for the steering wheel controls in it at all. Has anyone out there looked into this and can advise me if it's a good idea. I love the Santa Fe but the stereo in it is pretty limited and the MP3 shuffle is very frustrating at times.....it's about the only complaint I have about it since buying it last August...........any advice? Thanks.

Allendale, I used to drive through their to pick the pops up from Delphi, Coopersville when my car was in the shop and I borrowed his. Caledonia, is a very nice place to live. G.R. even in this recession is still growing very fast and is connecting up to Caledonia, Hudsonville, Zeeland, Holland, etc. Those city's are basically becoming part of "Greater" Grand Rapids and thus are suburbs. ;) Do you know where Pullman, Mi is ????? I graduated from Fennville High 11-12, but also went to Wyoming Park High. (K-10) Rocky

-Actually Studio 28(former biggest theater in U.S.) is located closer to the Wyoming, Mi Delphi plant. The Metal Stamping Plant "Fischer body" as it's still known is a little further away than "one block". But your point of the city of Wyomingas a whole being very blue collared, you are absolutely correct. This is where I grew up the majority of my life Yeah, you're right - I lived in Kentwood from '00 through '04, so we always drove by the GM plant on the way to the theater. Guess it seemed closer than it was! -So you are a resident of my home city. Cool. I miss G.R. and Western Michigan. Yep! I was born in Chicago, but grew up in Allendale. I'm currently living in Caledonia, which is nice. It's far enough out of the city, although urban sprawl will undoubtedly catch up sooner or later.

I am taking a class @ Davenport in Caledonia MI and the project we have to do is a consumer analysis. I am doing it on the Civic and need to find out who buys them. age, education, occupation, marital status, # of kids, income (range would be fine) , why did you buy the civic etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated; I have been searching the web for days with no luck!
Re: Fly? Oooohhhh Yeah! [coronet]

I see coronet just doesn't get it. I had a number of Mopar muscle cars including a Road Runner, Cuda, and a Challenger. None of them would "smoke" a new Charger and I seriously doubt yours would either if they're stock. I know this because actually own a new Charger and old muscle. The new Charger will also actually go around curves as opposed to just a straight line. It will actually stop like a true sports sedan too! I also get as many or more thumbs up and compliments on my new Charger as I did with the old muscle. The folks who like the car range from young kids all the way to the old timers and all in between. The new Charger IS a muscle car and more.........and it does all of this on 87 octane pump gas. I'd suggest the whining be stopped and actually drive one. When you turn the wheel the car responds as opposed to having to wait until that slack from worn out recirculating ball steering in the old muscle catches up. Look, old muscle has it's place, but let me tell ya' sir, I just spent a day at the Mopar drags in Milan, MI and I saw Neon SRT4s running 12.5 seconds in the quarter. On the best day a bone stock 426 hemi MIGHT get close to these numbers. Most ran high 12s/low 13s and required 100 octane to do it. The "new" muscle at the strip was just as potent as the big blocks of yore, but the folks then drove the new ones home from the track getting 25 MPG while the "real" muscle cars were put on a trailer. The styling of a car doesn't appeal to everyone. That's the way it works. Chrysler has stated for the last several years that it is their goal to have polarizing style. Without it we'd all be driving Accords. For the record, my 2006 Daytona Charger beats my 1969 Road Runner in every aspect. Yes, even 0-60 and in the quarter mile. I love the way my Charger looks and so do a lot of other folks. They did a great job on this car as virtually every car mag I've read has indicated. Also keep in mind that the new Charger gives people a car not that much short of much more expensive cars from the likes of BMW and others. Lastly, I do not wear a hat sideways, I do not wear my pants down around my knees, and I wouldn't part with my Charger for any car on the planet right now. It's really that good. Especially when considering price. So stop complaining about what is truly a great car and wait for the 2009 Challenger if all your worried about is how many doors the darned thing has.
