Re: mileage on my CRV [nomads2]

How would you feel about paying for a new transmission? That's probably the biggest bill you're likely to face. Has oil consumption increased? Few people get much more than 200K miles on a car before major repairs start hitting, but some careful and conscientious owners go well past 300K. I suspect they don't mind putting money into an old car. You might want to go to a car dealer and just sit in a new car. How's it feel? Some people can't resist the goodies and upgrades that come with new cars. Others are immune. Good luck.
Re: 2008 Honda Crv MPG information - Year's worth of observations [d07]
by lzc on Tue Nov 18 05:06:41 PST 2008
Your mileage record is similar to mine. I'm at 26.6 mpg overall on a '07 CR-V, with a hwy-city mix of about 60-40%. Hwy mileage can be improved easily. Slow down. 65 mph gets you better mileage than 75, and 55 mph is even better. Most of us, though, aren't going to poke along at 55 mph and some think 75 on the open road is too slow. The trade off is time versus money.

He just gave me a verbal warning. There is no way that a ticket would stand up in court, considering that he was (mis)judging the distance between the two cars in his mirror, in the dark. :P Besides, my experience is that Oregon State cops in pickup trucks are usually not really interested in writing traffic tickets. :)
I found it!
by oregonboy on Sat Nov 15 11:17:14 PST 2008
I found it! :) Driving south on I-5 between Eugene and Roseburg Oregon... nightime, moderate-to-light traffic... two lanes (each direction)... 65 mph posted limit, most traffic traveling 70-75. I overtake a group of cars: 4 in the right lane with moderate spacing between, and an orange and white VW microbus in the left lane. The VW is passing the rear-most of the group at a glacial rate. I wait behind in the left lane. Traffic starts to pile up behind me. Eventually, the VW clears the first of the cars in the right-hand group. There is plenty of room to pull over to let traffic by, but it continues, apparently intent on passing the entire group. At this rate it could take hundreds of miles. I give two quick bursts of high-beams... no response. I put on my left blinker an drift two feet to the left, so that the blinker is clearly flashing in the VW's driver's side mirror. A minute later... the VW solders on. I don't think he's gaining on the other cars at all. In fact, he's lost ground and it looks ok to pass on the right... as long as he doesn't speed up to pin me in. I decide to give it a shot, so I signal a right lane change, move over and pass deliberately (as opposed to "with extreme prejudice"). The VW doesn't appear to have changed speed. I signal and move left. I pass the second car of the 4-car group in the right lane and as I approach the third vehicle, a newish white Ford pickup, I notice a decal on the driver's door: "Oregon State Police". I check my speed... under 74 (should be ok). I slide on by, watching in my mirror for a reaction. The OSP pickup signals and pulls into the left lane behind me. to be continued...

I think you have laid it out very well. One exception might be: Force one of Shrinking Three move to West Coast I think the regulations on the West Coast would make it impossible to build cars here. California and Oregon have pretty much discouraged any business that is dirtier than Software development. Nevada and New Mexico would probably welcome the diversity that an automaker would provide.
2009 RAV4 Sport 4Cyl. 4X4
by snorlax0930 on Thu Nov 13 16:27:22 PST 2008
Purchase for 2009 Black Spanking New $22900 in Boston Area dealership :) . All we did is send offer by email and dealers start beating deals after deals. This is out the door. Destination and Doc. fees included. But we did not pay tax because im a Oregon state resident. pretty tight. Black RAV4 sport comes with a nice matching pewter 18 inch wheels. (used to be plain silver). the combination color is tight. The best way is to do it online email. save your time going to the dealership. If they dont like your offer then tell them your going to move on and take your money to the next dealer. MSRP on the vehicle is about $27900 then minus $1000 manufacture discount $26900. Do the MATH. Use car buying tips.com website they have a spreadsheet. we offer with 2% profit and minus factory holdback. Our original offer was $23061. Peace out.
