My 1000 mile trip.
by bmartinpe on Wed Dec 13 06:32:50 PST 2006
I recently took the Liberty from Nashville, TN, to Elyria, OH, a round trip of about 1000 miles. North bound fuel economy was about 25 MPG on LSD (that's low sulfur diesel, not the hallucinogen). South bound fuel usage was about 23 MPG on ULSD which was priced higher than the LSD. On the way north I checked the odometer against the interstate mile markers, and I found that my odometer gains one tenth mile about every 60 actual miles on the road. In others words, to travel 60 miles my odometer shows 60.1 miles, which is nearly two tenths of one per cent off, not really enough to worry about. I went through my 25000 oil change on schedule B without the yellow light coming on, a new milestone since this is the sixth EGR valve the Liberty has had. The last EGR change out included a new throttle plate. I made the 1000 trip on new Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires, and I noted no appreciable difference in fuel economy. Gosh darn, it didn't snow in the Cleveland area, and I wanted to try these tires out. By the way that was the weekend St. Louis was shut down for snow.
My Second CR-V SE
by darlingcrv on Sun Jul 09 05:17:28 PDT 2006
Just purchased a second 2006 SE model (pewter pearl) with all the additional bells and whistles, like running boards, nickel trim, luggage rack, pin stripes, cargo mat. While running boards aren't really needed I love the sportier look they give the vehicle. I purchased at Victory Honda in Sandusky Ohio I was treated like royalty (which is what I expect when spending this amount of money in one day) We were never left to sit or get bored for more than 10 minutes at any point as a floor salesman, internet saleman, general manager and finance manager all kept coming to us during our process to keep us informed of where things were at with the deal, especially during that lag time of vehicle prep they do from when you've sealed the deal. Prior to this purchase I received quotes for the typical model without all the above fluff. These were the prices quoted to me for internet deals - although I still had to talk to most of them on the phone to get them to match and compete against one another. 23,410 - Motorcars - Cleveland Heights Ohio 23,410 - Sunnyside Honda - Middleberg Heights, Ohio 23,500 - Whiteys Honda - Mansfield, Ohio 24,060 - Matia Honda - Elyria, Ohio and of course, some dealers didn't bother to respond, so I knew that I didn't want to deal with them anyway. Considering the following: 24,060 - Invoice Price 24,882 - Edmunds TMV for what my area is I was very happy with the prices I was quoted. Would have been even happier if we had done it a few days earlier - we missed out on the $750 rebate! Since we didn't start looking until the 6th (it ended the 5th) SIGH-- Oh well, When I bought my 2000 SE I got a great deal, but not as much under invoice in my area back then. Anyway, it was more than 45 min to an hour drive to other dealerships outside of Sandusky for me. I had a really bad experience with the prior Honda Dealership Sandusky Motors in 2000, HOWEVER, now that it is owned by Victory Honda they have done a total 360! I got a great deal on my souped up version and was treated fairly for the most part on my trade (a 2001 Grand Prix with 170,000 miles) I will also mention that Sunnyside did a wonderful job for us in 2000 with our last purchase - so if thats closer for you take time to check them out as well. I told the new Victory about the horrid experience and treatment from the old owners, did my homework ahead of time and they were willing to do just about anything to keep me from going to Cleveland. Even though my husband was with me, I did the negotiations (he hates that stuff)and they knew up front that I was more interested in bottom line prices and trade in value than silly things like colors and cup holders! I promised Victory I wouldn't divulge the price I paid, however, I did go for the model with the add-ons and was thrilled with my bottom line! If you've done any research on CR-V pricing in this area and based on the standard SE model prices I listed above (you should come to the conclusion that where I bought from would have had to beat or come close to the pricing ;) to save me the additional 2 hours drive time round trip to a cleveland area dealer) I will say this, they definitely cleared out all that soap taste that was still in my mouth from the old Sandusky Motors days. I love my new honda and now we have his and hers CR-V's! The 2000 we have is great, never any problems and has 65,000 miles. I didn't bother looking at another model by competitors in this category as the CR-V already gives me everything I want and then some on the newer 2006! :) I agree with the prior post on playing the game. I had FUN doing this deal since they knew I was a woman on a mission to get what I wanted for the price I wanted it at! Not too mention I impressed the hell out of my husband who would have just paid the first price offer without the research. Take the time to get the internet pricing, secure financing before you go if you can and let them know you are willing to drive further than your own city to save a few dollars!
Re: Passenger-side Rear Window defect on brand new Ody [sebring95]
by arbabc on Mon Jun 05 19:25:52 PDT 2006
I just got my Odyssey back from Jack Matia Honda in Elyria, Ohio. I am furious. They used a bare screwdriver to pry off the door panel, leaving bare metal gashes at about three inch intervals. They also broke a hook for the built in shades. If that was not enough, the ivory interior now looks like someone took couple of scoops of soot and smeared it all over the carpet, mats and door protector. Left finger prints all over the glass and did not wash the car. In addition to repairing the window, I had them install fog lights and a day/night mirror. The carpet, floor mats and drivers door well area has also been blackened. The dash plastic has been dinged up as well. My salesman told me last week when I bought the car: "Price may be why you bought the first car here, the service department is why you will buy the next car here." :confuse: Really?! LOL! Don't worry, I don't give up easy. I'll be back tomorrow morning at 7:00AM to speak to the Service Manager. I am leaving the car as is till show and tell. I can't wait to fill out a Honda customer survey!
Re: 2006 Odyssey EXL RES & NAV in Cleveland, Ohio [cinderina]
by arbabc on Sat Jun 03 15:16:55 PDT 2006
I purchased my vehicle at Jack Matia Honda in Elyria. I would never buy anything from a Ganley dealership(longer story  ). I bought a car for a friend at Jay in Bedford before. Maybe the closed descent dealership to you. They don't have much of an inventory and may not be able to deal aggressively. Try Rick Case. They are a larger volume dealer. I could have bought the same vehicle at other dealerships (except Ganley, AVOID!) for the same price if they had the exact same vehicle in stock. That is your key to a good price, particularly when buying a new car, not the dealer. Now for rule number one. When you are just beginning to look you are not ready to call the Sales Manager and tell him or her exactly what you want. Most Managers don't want to spend more than 2 minutes making a initial verbal deal, and 10 minutes setting it up. Also, the more knowledgeable and firm you sound on the exact vehicle you want and the exact price you are willing to pay, the more likely the manager will recognize you as a person with industry insight and one who will uphold your part of the deal. Your part of the deal is to know exactly what vehicle you want, what accessories or options you want, what exterior and interior color combinations you want, and exactly how you intend to pay for it, before calling the Internet Sales Manager. So its OK to go into any dealership and test drive with the first sales person. Better yet call the dealership and ask for any sales person, and schedule a test drive. Remember that you are just test driving and tell them you have to look at other minivans before talking numbers. If you ever come back to that dealership you are for ever tagged as the customer of the sales person that helped you first. It is almost impossible to deal directly with the Sales Managers once that has happened. At least its a hassle. If you have ever experience sitting around while your sales person goes and talk to their manager, you know what I mean. That is why, when I am ready to buy, I start a new relationship, at a different dealership and this time it is directly with the Internet Sales Manager or the Sales Manager. Good Luck! :)
