Louisville Road Trip-- Impressions
by csandste on Sun Sep 14 08:56:21 PDT 2008
It's been 40 days without a post, so I thought I'd keep this thread alive. The car is comfortable enough for a five hour drive, although I'd still like a little more thigh support in the front seat. Seat is a bit too short. My Maxx is more comfortable as a road car. I think the Sonata might be as well. I'm 6'4 but have only a 32 inch inseam so I'm not that long-legged. As I stated in the MPG post, I think it's good for 30 mpg, especially if you put the transmission into fifth. D seems to shift down far too often. Handling is enough tighter compared to my Maxx so that I could see that people not used to GM electric steering would find it a bit sloppy at first drive. I haven't rotated tires yet, tried to when I got my last oil change at Wally-World but they were confused by the tire inflation indicator. So it's to the dealer or a real tire dealer for the next oil change/rotation. Some wear on front tires at 11K, so these things are going to get less mileage and cost a lot more to replace than the standard sixteen inch tires. They didn't have a base car at the dealer when I made the sale in early 07, having second thoughts about the appearance package being worth it given replacement costs. Definitely will skip the Michelins next time.

Averaged just under 30 mpg each way with at least 15 percent city driving on two tankfuls. Would probably have averaged 32-33 on a straight highway trip. Agree with Mickeyrom that city and highway mpg seem quite disparate. Shoved the transmission over into manual mode for highway-- kept if from downshifting on every grade, although it still went in and out of lockup.
what a difference a week makes....

When I left for work a week ago Jolie's Titan had just been elevated to saint status, the Dodge was as secure as ever and she was still in love with Zippy....my oh my what a little heat and perspiration can do to a person's perspective LOL....I hope the numbers come out right on the Protege for you, I've perusing the lots myself today and thinking about trading the Impala :-) though if I do it I'll probably give it a month or 2 waiting for year end deals....and there's still that '06 Harley I have to negotiate for as soon as the new prices have been confirmed.

V8Lincolnguy, the story about the Aviator was premature and based on supplier's that produce parts for the Saint Louis Assembly Plant (where the Aviator is built). OBviously because that plant is being closed down, the media has put 2 and 2 together, and come up with that idea that it was being dropped next year. In reality, at one of the more recent press meetings, one of the higher Ford officials stated that the story was incorrect and they had no plans at this time to drop the Aviator. On a side note, the vehicles being produced at that plant, can be shifted to the Louisville plant. As to the redesign of the Aviator, you are correct in thinking it'll be car based. Expect to see that, and a crossover (think NaviCross) which will surplant the Aviator.
Tranny Leak

Yup!! I have posted here before stating most Ody's are junk. And they are!! You all know it; you're just in denial because you paid sticker just like me. I have a 2000 LX that has dripped tranny fluid from the day I took delivery on 12/21/99. It is not enough to make a puddle on the garage floor but the bell housing is always damp with fluid. The dealer is not any help. He says many cars leak various fluids with no ill effects. His advice is to just check the level at fuel stops. Post #1415 speaks to dealer greed. That guy is a saint compared to the dealer I purchased mine from (Louisville, Kentucky in eastern Jefferson county). If my dealer wasn't selling cars, he would be boosting them! Maybe that is why I am down on Honda these days. Chrysler TC's rule once again. Check out the 2002 model and you will forget about the magic seat. Which is why 62% of the people bought Ody's anyway; just like me. Your pal, Larck
