Re: No bailout without addressing the UAW [gagrice]

Well from one former union member to another their Gary, I do think we union members are a cut above the rest !!! People in unions have a sense of pride and belong to something. I didn't always agree with the unions I belonged too on all issues but when people stick togeather they can improve safety without retaliation, suggestions will be taken serious, and your boss can't tap you on the shoulder when you are older and say your out of here without giving a reason. I have non-union relatives and friends who've had that done to them. Some are afraid they will make too much money and management will replace them with a younger, cheaper, employee. Don't tell me you are naive enough to think that doesn't happen ??? I have a hard time talking to you on these issues because as a union supporter it bothers me that you are a globalist, pseudo-capitalist !!! :confuse: The teamsters I know think a lot more like me than you !!! They are very pro-american, and think we need to rid ourselves of all this shoddy lead tainted goods we import from those commies !!! I never though of myself as having a silver spoon compared to most kids growing up !!! Michigan, use to be a beacon of good jobs from white collar to blue collar and their use to be a mutual respect among all of us playing a major part in contributing to the good of the country. That nationalism, has been lost !!! The UAW, workers are better trained, have more pride, than their non-union competitors. The UAW, agreed to seriously loosing up their restrictive work rules last contract. They found that plants like Lansing, MI. Cadillac plant is safer and more ergonomically friendly to the work force. The Delta plant though is a sweat shop and many injuries have occured in that plant causing surgeries of shoulders, knees, etc, for the older workforce !!! I love how you rail against Obama, on illegal aliens even though your current president and nominee have been pushing for amnesty for the last 4 or 5 years. I will also note that Lou Dobbs, supports the Big 3 bailouts but agrees trade, currency manipulation, and some sort of content laws need to be implemented !!! ;) I know your golden eutopia would be the Reaganomic Theory of trickle down economics but one would think that after 8 years of that program that we need change as the world of business ethics has changed. You can't tax break corporate america into creating jobs. They will however love you if you give them a tax gift as a parting gift to help them pay for that new plant in china !!!   -Rocky

Why me, because I spoke the truth. I dug out the aricle in my Lansing State Journal Business Weekly section on Labor Day. This article was written by Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press. Headline is "Smart Fortwo fashionable but flawed. He compares it to the Aveo, Fit, Versa, Scion XB or the Mini Cooper. He states they are all superior to vastly superior. They have more room, power better rides and higher quality. Interior cheap materials like nubby fabric on doors, poor fitted carpet & floor mats plus cupholders to small to hold a large capuccino securely. Latch on rear window broke and couldn't be closed. Poor shift quality, engine vibration annoying and on an on. I suggest you find the article and read it yourself as it sure didn't do them any good. Reminds me of the Yugo roadtests of old. And we all know how long those things lasted. Here is the article http://tinyurl.com/6dcjyb :lemon:  :P
My recent deal in MI
by ronspartan on Fri Oct 31 18:30:55 PDT 2008
Just picked up my 08 G35Xs at Infiniti of Ann Arbor. The deal I got was as follows: Platinum graphite with graphite leather 39180 MSRP $466 per mo, 39months; 1120 at closing (1st payment+ doc fees+) 15K, cap cost was $35K + Think it was decent deal. Want to thank everyone who helped me through the process. Dealership was awesome. Did the whole deal via email & telephone. Picked up the car & they arranged for me to return my expiring leased car (Saab) down the round. So within an hour I was out of Ann Arbor which made me happy being a Spartan. (As little time as I can spend in AA the better).. The good thing is that the owner of this dealership also owns Spartan Toyota in E Lansing. Has anyone had any experience with a rear spoiler on this car. My wife likes it as we saw one on one of the cars at another dealership & she wants to buy it for me. I am not sold on it yet. Any thoughts.........
CTS Coupe/Wagon
by dmathews3 on Thu Oct 30 18:31:33 PDT 2008
For the person who posted that there was a hold placed on the CTS coupe due to the economy that I said was most likely false, I was right. In my Lansing paper today it was stated by GM that both the couple and wagon are on schedule to be released as planned. It said they were to far along to put a hold on. :shades:

Even if GM could say look we're moving our factory from Lansing, Mi to San Antonio, Tx. You can come if you want, but the job pays what everybody else makes down there. Do you think people would be able to sell their houses and move at the drop of a hat??? Who would be SOL if the house sells for less than is owed??? /i> And that is the big problem here in Michigan and it is spreading thruout the country. My wife has a standing offer elsewhere with a sizable wage increase but we could never sell our house for what it used to be worth if we could sell it at all.. We only have a few more years left on the 15 year mortgage but we just do not want to move. So we are hoping that nothing happens that she loses her job. We do not want to move, we want to stay here.

"$12/hr is about what the workers in my plant make here in NH. Most make $15-$16/hr. Rents are about $800 for a 2-bedroom, but then again most families have 2 wage-earners." See, that's the key; 2 WAGE EARNERS. My wife's grandmother was saying a few weeks ago how tough her father had it about 70 years ago, raising 4 girls and taking care of a sick wife by himself, paying a $3,000 mortgage all on $25/wk. I tried to explain to her that that same house today would cost $300,000 yet I guarantee that her father would make no where near $2,500/wk. She couldn't comprehend the simple math and how they correlate (both being 100 times what they were). You'd be hard pressed to find 2 wage earners today grossing $2,500/wk. even up here in RI. This is something no one seems to get, that you can't just take the standard of living from one part of the country, and unilaterally apply it everywhere, and expect everyone to adjust at the snap of a finger. All this competition between different parts of this country is bad. Instead of dragging people down to their standard of living, we should be working to bring everyone up. THAT'S the American dream.
