thanks. As soon as I get my convertible out of the shop, the DeSoto's going in next, in an attempt to make it road-worthy again. It mainly just needs brake work, a carb rebuild, and some maintenance (belts, hoses, tuneup, coolant flush, tranny flush, etc) but I'm sure the mechanic will find other issues as he gets into it. Oh, and seatbelts. I'm going to have seatbelts put in. I was 20 when I bought this car, and back then, seatbelts didn't seem like that big of a deal. But I'm much more aware of my mortality these days, and don't feel nearly as indestructible as I did when I was 20. :P
Tranny slip in cold weather?
by bb_shot on Mon Nov 17 11:21:16 PST 2008
Hey, I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota Auto with 145,000 miles. I have gotten the tranny flushed ever 30,000 miles since I bought it with 32,000 miles. I recently, only in cold weather ~45-50 degrees have been having a hard time getting it to shift into 2nd and 3rd gear. I just had it flushed with no resolve. What should I do?

I am ordering one of these babies tonight. Unfortunately it is a Christmas present from my gf, so I probably won't get to enjoy it until then. It will be agonizing knowing I have this present waiting for me while I am making holiday drives for T-giving and Xmas. I saw your message on the steering wheel adapter. I will purchase one of those, probably off eBay. A scosche wire harness should do fine, right? Also, do you think I will need a custom install kit or is this puppy going to fit flush with the opening? I'm going to wait to hear the sound before I decide whether or not to switch out the door speakers. I also have to look into cracking the lock on DVD mode, so that it will play DVDs even when the car is not in park.
Re: Anti Freeze Leak [bricksie]
by loosenut on Mon Nov 17 00:03:29 PST 2008
two sugestions on your leaky anti-freeze filled grand cherokee.. 1-autozone.com..loin,select your car,and their website has a online manual!..a great find,i use a lot!..it's not always as thourogh as i'd like sometimes, but will still usually give you a idea of what's what-especially the funnest part of auto repair-under the dash ! ! also, you can shop for the replacement parts-price for your rig.. --2--try a tube of alumaseal in the coolant..it comes in a tube, about the size of a roll of quarters..only open the radiator cap when your system is cold, otherwise it will erupt like a sience class volcano-probably scalding you..push down,and-like a child proof asprin bottle-there is a safety catch,so ya gotta click about a quarter turn-1/4.. pour in thepowder, refill with the proper mix,as pure anti-freeze WILL freeze ! ! do NOT add the sealer into the reserve bottle..it will only plug the line to your radiator..take it for a hour drive..to get rid of the anti-freeze smell quicker, flush the air intake of your car with water..it's the grill under the wipers under the windshield..it'll also clear out the drain,or let you know if you've got a plugged drain -the stop leak might save you from having to replace the heater core !..now-wouldn't that be a wonderful thing?? and,if not,ya gave it a good try!..best of luck ! ! windtalkerr :shades:
Cooling System Issue
by pmenendez on Sun Nov 16 18:59:12 PST 2008
I have a 2000 Lincoln Navigator and receintly replaced the upper, lower radiator hoses. I also flushed the system with new coolant and replaced the thermostat. After all that I hoticed that the heater core was leaking, I went ahead and replaced that too. Now I notice that when I turn on the heater it blows hot air most of the time. Sometimes it blows out cold air. I have no leaks and the temp gauge stays in the middle range. The coolant is full. Was I supposed to bleed the cooling system? If so how do I do that with this truck. I did not see any bleed valves near the thermostat housing. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!
Re: 2000 Lincoln LS Engine over heating [rgnmstr]
by kevingd on Sun Nov 16 17:58:01 PST 2008
I am trying to find out if I am having similar problems and want to see if draining, flushing and adding new coolant fixes this. Can someone specifically say where the Lincoln LS's drain plug is for the radiator? And where is the radiator in the engine? thank you.
