Re: The competitors are celebrating [parviz]

Mine and my co-worker's Villagers had the rear wiper stop broken. By searching your local craiglist.org, and you will see many Villagers and Quests have the same issue. We are talking about a 10+ year old Villagers and Quests here. Apparently, not all have that problem. See one here: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/638709063.html (the picture at the top-right) It's a 1997 Villager (twin-brother of Nissan Quest) Keep looking, and you will see more. Of course, its a $200 repair, but a bad design, nontheless.
The competitors are celebrating

I am sure the competitors at Hyundai (Veracuz), Mazda (CX-9) and Toyota (Highlander), and GM (Trios) are all celebrating now. The concept Pilot at least has very cool headlights. The production one has cheap ones that look "blind". Yes, I think the hatch glass can be opened separately, but I hated that on my Mercury Villager. The wiper on hatch resting on a plastic stop always fail after a few years. It has been a very common problem on Quest and Villager. Ask anyone who ever owned one. After all, I think Pilot is an utility-oriented CUV. People will buy it for function over look and sportiness. For the latter, Mazda CX-9 is the winner. The rest are positioned somewhere in between.

If having Onstar is such a big deal why would someone switch to a car that does not have it as an option. I am sure the accountants said how many people with analog only Onstar service are still forking over the money every month? That number was too small to warrant a newly designed piece of equipment. I know for a fact that the digital Onstar offers services that were not available when I bought my 1999 Suburban. It did not have any of the engine monitoring equipment required for the current service. How many people do you suppose still have the same cell phone as they did in 2000? I would say virtually NONE. The carriers forced the customers into the newer phones when their contracts were up. As far back as 2004 it was nearly impossible to get an analog cell phone new. We bought 100s of refurbished Motorola bag phones for our customers in the Arctic. It was the only phone that would work for many people. I have retired but last I talked to the guys we are not going to eliminate analog service in Prudhoe Bay, Barrow or the Arctic Villages that are depending on that service. GM/Onstar not being the carrier does not have that option. So are you going to buy a new GM car or just live without Onstar?
98 Mercury Villager mechanics confused
by elisab on Thu Mar 15 05:57:03 PDT 2007
I have 98 Mercury Villager, with a Nissan engine. She’s never had problems, aside from regular maintenance. She started sounding like she was “missing”, to the point I couldn’t get her to go 30 miles per hr., hesitating, ‘sputtering’ so to speak, stalling…I think you understand where I’m at with her. Was told DON’T drive, we’ll tow. She’s been in the shop for 3 days now. Three mechanics are perplexed yet came up with the following: Initial Diagnostic gave them no answers, so did what they needed so ‘codes’ would come up….they cleared those and got a “3rd gear” something not doing its job. {that’s what the man said and to him and the others, it made no sense} SO…the Cap and rotor were replaced…all 6 plugs {not wires} replaced. [Wires are fine, they allege.] Changed oil and filter, don’t know why. Checked timing marks – there fine. Removed oxygen sensor from converter, didn’t make a difference. Tested the distributor, alleges is fine. They Changed the Ignition Coil. Voila! NOT!!! When the coil was changed, she fired up, and they said yeah! Drove her out of the bay, and assumed it was fine. When I arrived to pick her up, she started, idled for a few minutes. As I was about to leave, put her into ‘drive’ and she sputtered and shook again. Then she stalled out. She turned over 2 more times, but was still misfiring. Then she stalled out and wouldn’t restart. They haven’t a clue as to what to do next. I want my baby back. I am concerned, especially when the main mechanic said he’s never seen a Nissan engine inside a Mercury Villager. EXCUSE ME!??! What kind of mechanic do I have? Be that as it may, she’s still not working. I offered up the “Possibility” of the alternator having an issue. They said no way, since it has nothing to do with the electrical system. Can you POSSIBLY offer suggestions to ‘what else it could be’? May be I could call the mechanic and pass on your advice. Don’t worry, I won’t be taking her back to them EVER. Need a mechanic whom knows what their doing. Please Help! Thanks, Elisa

A good mechanic will put your vehicle up on a lift and start pulling and pushing on the suspension and other parts looking for that noise. A good mechanic will find it. Also, some of these replacement sway bar links have grease fittings in them. Do yours? It could be as simple as getting that van lubed.

The new 2008 Dodge Challenger? Check-out pictures of the concept and post back if that was what you saw. http://www.dodge.com/en/challenger/index.html
