Re: 2008 EX-L $25,200 [papagoph]
by yak33 on Fri Nov 14 22:44:02 PST 2008
Wow papagoph, our buys were very similar! I was going to post this after pick up, but wanted to follow your post. On Nov. 8 we bought a 2008 Baltic Blue Odyssey EX-L from Hansel Honda in Petaluma, CA. Due to our work schedules and the DVD installation, we decided to pick it up this Saturday. Here's the breakdown: $32,210 MSRP $25,988 purchase price, including destination and dealer installed 10” DVD system. $55 docu fee $272 license, reg, transfer, tire fees $2083 tax (8.0% OUCH!) ----- $28,398 OTD Note: To complete the deal at $25,988 I negotiated a dealer-installed aftermarket drop-down 10.0" DVD system. So, looked at another way we ran the dealer's numbers and the purchase price on the EX-L straight out was $25,300. This is just a hair above the $25,200 quoted above. (I will also post this info on the Real Car Tips website). Baltic Blue seems pretty scarce in EX-L now (at least in northern CA and even harder to find in with RES (none in northern CA according to checks by a few local dealers). Out of 30 2008's of various models on Hansel’s lot, this was the only dark blue one. Papagoph makes the interesting observation about amount of 2008’s on a dealer’s lot factoring into more favorable pricing. It makes sense that a dealer would do this and I agree. Is a coincidence our buys are so close? Maybe, maybe not. FYI – For a comparison, we first drove a 2009 Sienna LE. It was a joy to drive and frankly I liked it better than the Odyssey. It seemed a bit more refined overall. The Odyssey was noisier inside, especially rows 2&3. However, as this was to replace my wife's car, we agreed this would be her call to make. She liked the Odyssey's body lines, interior, and a few other things better than the Sienna. In the end, I think both the Odyssey and Sienna are winners, so I don't think you can go wrong with either. yak33

and the color I am looking for is either the ocean mist or the baltic blue. Besides calling each and every Honda dealer, how do I find who has the EXLs? I am willing to drive upto 60 miles or so from zipcode 06801.
2008 Odyssey EX

Just before the end of the month, I purchased a Baltic Blue EX (no other options) for $21,891 + TTR from Honda Village in Newton. Other area (Boston Area) quotes were similar. Doc fee was 299 and Title/plates were $75. I used Edmunds service to get quotes from 5 local dealers - all but 1 came in under $24k (including destination charge) for the EX.
Just got a 2008 EX in Richmond, VA

Thanks to everyone here, I decided to take the plunge and pick up an Odyssey. Living in Hampton Roads, the best offers I got were from Northern VA. I dealt with a lot of dealers, but decided to go w/ West Broad Honda in Richmond. They were about $200 higher than my other best offer, but an hour closer, and more importantly, I just got a better feeling from them. Final Price was: $22.450 for the car (not incl. $399 dealers fee), $23,650 OTD. I was planning on paying cash, but went w/ the 0.9% financing for 36 months They found me a Baltic Blue, and waived the dealer exchange fee. Overall they were a pleasure to deal with, and no surprises on the price when I went to seal the deal. Now I just need to sell my Pilot.

Update, the dealer who offered me the lowest price 2008 Odyssey w RES and NAVI for $29670 just left me a voicemail and told me the dealership sold the two he could have sold me for that price earlier; one last night after I left, and one this afternoon. I wasn't really too upset because I didn't particularly care for the white and black colors, and still am not convinced the NAVI is worth an extra $2100 more, even though the integrated stereo control and a bigger rear camera view in the NAVI are cool. Just not sure if they were $2100 more cool. I just called the salesman back, and he has two EX-L w/RES and NAVI left, both with crossbars and mudflaps (the 29670 priced ones had neither) he that he offered me for 30,300. I asked if he could remove those items to get to the earlier 29670 price. He put me on hold for a couple of minutes, and then said his manager would not do that, and the price was as low as he could go. Still plan to buy tonight, but it will most likely be the Odyssey EX-L w/RES from the other MD dealership for 27525 OTD. And Alexva, email or PM me directly, because the salesman I have been dealing with specifically asked that I did not post him or his dealership on the web. He never said anything about the price, which is why I posted the 2008 EX-L w/RES OTD price of $27525. It seems like the best I have seen yet, and since the color selection and availability will shrink, I am planning to bite tonight to get the color my wife really wants (Baltic Blue), rather than maybe saving a few hundred dollars more later but getting whatever color is left later. It is a gamble, though, as the prices I was getting from 4 weeks ago to now have dropped by several thousand dollars. But overall, I think I will be happy getting a Honda for well over 20% off the high MSRP sticker, and getting the color my wife likes.
