trip mileage figures
by rwinland1 on Tue Jun 26 18:51:50 PDT 2007
The trip mentioned above was 4256 miles-- our "new" MKX now has 10K miles after less than three months of ownership (!!). The following figures are mostly 70-75mph highway driving but some tankfulls included a significant amount of city driving; usually 4 people plus luggage; moderate terrain. Lowest tankfull: 18.3 mpg Highest tankfull: 23.9 mpg Average of 13 tankfulls: 21.9 mpg The highest reading I saw was during a short 55 mph run, just me in the vehicle babying the throttle. I saw 28 mpg until a steep hill got in the way (SR 550 eastbound from Sharpsburg, if anyone is familiar with rural southeast Ohio).
I love how this car handles the twisties!

I just took my first road trip in my 2007 Santa Fe SE. For Father's day I wanted to go on a short road trip. I live in the Washington D.C. area (Northern VA) and the wife and I decided to drive to Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg MD which was approximately 140 miles roundtrip. (My wife and I love history and we are trying to visit as many historical sites as we can). All I can say is "I LOVE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE!" I recently travelled the same route when I took a trip to Harper's Ferry WV in my wife's 2006 Toyota Sienna XLE(Antietam Battlefield is only about a 30 minute drive further North). The route travels through portions of the Appalachian mountains and some portions are quite hilly and curvy. There was no comparison. The Sienna has a nice smooth ride that readily absorbs bumps, however it is a little floaty and it sways heavily in corners! It does not instill confidence (in fact, it makes you want to slow down...a lot!). The Santa FE really hugs the corners well for a midsize SUV and it encourages you to test it's limits (I really have to slow myself down in the twisties). The Santa Fe is also so quiet! It is so much quieter than the Sienna and it feels so much more substantial (The Toyota has noticeable gaps where the dash panels come together...the Santa Fe has none!) I usually have to drive the Sienna on long trips since I have 2 little one's and the Sienna has a DVD player that the Santa Fe lacks. However, since it was father's day I insisted that we drive the car I wanted to drive. Fortunately, my nearly 3 year old son managed to keep himself entertained and did not fuss very much during the trip. I averaged 22.5 MPG during the whole trip the AC was on roughly 50% of the time. There was a noticeable drop in MPG when the AC was on. Those of you who are in the market for a midsized SUV need to take a serious look at the Santa Fe...you will not be sorry. My only regret is not getting a Limited, it would be nice to have a power driver's seat and leather! However the SE gave me most of the features I really wanted, and was in my budget.

True Market Value numbers are updated monthly. link I used to hike in Shiloh. One evening, so the story goes, a Yankee couple were touring the cemetery at dusk when a pair of docents approached them from behind to tell them that the cemetery was closing at sunset. Scared the heck out of them. Seems the docents were in antebellum costume - she was in Scarlett O'hara skirts and her beau in a Johnny Reb outfit. I suspect that the same story floats around Gettysburg and Sharpsburg.... Steve, Host

Passed through Martinsburg, WV and saw $1.49 for 87. 17 miles away in Sharpsburg, MD and close to the Antietam battlefield prices were as high as $1.57. Just 2 hours north to get back to $1.29 PF Flyer Host Pickups & News & Views Message Boards
Road trip

This morning, I left my home in Langhorne, PA and drove to Boonsboro, MD to visit my friend who had recently undergone open heart surgery. I took the PA turnpike (I live near exit 28) to Carlisle, exit 16 and picked up I-81 South to 40 East then to alternate 40 into Boonsboro. I rode around Sharpsburg, Hagerstown and Boonsboro before heading back. The trip back was via I-81 North to 30 East and on to Lancaster, PA where I picked up fuel. The overhead computer registered 19 MPG, and using my calculator produced a resulting 19+ some minor decimals. There were of course lots of road repairs and backed up traffic scenarios and the usual heavy stop and go through York. The trip home yielded 20.4 on the overhead, but I did not refuel so there was no manual calculation. I did 60 in the 55 zones and 70 in the 65 zones. Cruise Control all the way. I am quite satisfied with the performance of my Quad. 4.7, 4X4, 5 speed, 3.55 and tire and handling group plus a lot of other stuff. A.R.E. LSII fiber glass tonneau. Bookitty
