Re: Chevrolet Malibu Owners: MPG-Real World Numbers [jerrywimer]
by jaj1701 on Mon Nov 17 14:40:30 PST 2008
Hello, I know the VVT v6 was introduced in MY 2007......when did the Electronic Power Steering disappear for the 6cyl? Looking at the revised EPA Numbers are as follows for the MAXX 3.6.... City / Hwy / Combined 04 19 / 28 / 22 05 20 / 28 / 23 06 20 / 28 / 23 07 18 / 28 / 21 Was the drop in 07 due to the VVT? The loss of EPS? Emissions? Other equipment (tires/transmission)? Why the gain from 04 to 05/06? I'd like to find the sweet spot mileage wise. Where do you feel that would be? Is there any strong argument why going for the 2007 with the VVT engine is worth it? It's a lot easier finding extremely well equipped 04 and 05s then 06 and 07s, though I prefer the external styling of the newer ones as well the the updated interior colors. Grrrr....help! Thanks, Jason Just FYI, SS fuel econ #s 06SS 16/24/19 07SS 15/22/18

Chrysler Canada is doing EP plus 0% on most 08s and 09s. :)

It sounds like it was measured by hand, during fillups. The "~" would mean "around" (as in, "not near my log, so can't post exact numbers"). Either way though, those numbers sound pretty spot on. The 2004 V6 LT sedan we had was the same way, with a best ever just over 38 mpg all highway, and routinely 32-35 ~90% highway mix of weekly work driving, and a worst city return of around 25 mpg. The 3500 non-VVT was pretty frugal, and the much criticized EPS probably helped. Later model years limited the EPS to the 4 cylinder cars only, losing the slight efficiency bump it provided (word was, around 1 mpg gained for the electric power steering).

Not sure about ATL, but there is a full page ad in the Memphis paper today, "GMC - Financing That Fits". Enclave is only one of the 3 listed there, $2500 Cash Back - 2008 model. Tahoe LTZ $6000 cash back. Escalade $7000 cash back. Well, went to the GMC.COM page and Acadia has the same $2500 cash back. I went and searched inventory and did NOT find the selling price displayed as when I bought an Outlook under the Employee Pricing, $1500 rebate in August. So, this offer looks to be 0% or $2500 rebate, but without the EP already calculated.
2007 Honda Fit - Electronic Power Steering EPS Intermittent Failure
by tecon on Wed Oct 29 17:38:06 PDT 2008
This morning when I started my car to go to work the power steering did not work. It was a cold morning - 40 degrees (cold by Florida standards). I googled the problem and found this forum. Per forum information, I tried restarting the car a few times, which did not solve the problem. I called Honda at 800-999-1009, described my problem and the common problem in this forum. Honda stated that they had no technical service notes and issued a case # N012008-102900045, stating that only the dealer could diagnose the problem and if the dealer could not find a problem there is no problem. Since my car has almost 77K miles I'm out of warranty. I called to check tow prices to get it to the dealer >$100. I went back out and restarted the car. This time the power steering worked and the indicate light turned off. I drove it to Brandon Honda who diagnosed that the electronic power steering control module was defective due to the latched computer code of 32-09. The EPS control module is $734.80 (P/N 39980SLNA01). Adding labor and taxes for a grand total of $971.00. When the power steering goes out I would not consider the car "drivable". It is this factor that makes this problem unsafe. A failing EPS control module during driving has a high possibility of resulting in an accident. I am getting my "failed but working" EPS control module back from the dealer. If anyone has electrical diagrams to connect this module - please post. I would like to put the module in the temperature chamber at work and cycle it through the automotive temperature range of -40C to 125C. I suspect that this a temperature related power on reset and/or initialization problem that impacts all 2007 Honda Fits.
