We can speculate all we want it is a boondoggle

According to the State website the hoped for figure is: The most recent ridership forecasts for the California High-Speed Train Project estimate between 88 – 117 million passengers annually by 2030 for the entire 800-mile high-speed train network connecting Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area, Central Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire, and San Diego. How many people can be carried on a high-speed train? Operating “trainsets” will have multiple cars and will be up to 1,300 feet long, depending on the type of train and the market demand. At peak travel times, trains can be lengthened, or trainsets can be connected, to operate as a single train. The high-speed train could be configured in many different ways either to maximize seating, which would provide seating for up to 1,300 passengers or to provide more space per passenger than a conventional airline seat and provide a café area and other amenities, in which case trains could carry around 950 passengers. http://www.cahighspeedrail.ca.gov/faqs/ridership.htm Those numbers mean this train will carry at least 3 times as many as the high speed train on the East Coast. Amtrak claims 3 million per year for Acela Express. My concerns are as follows. The state currently has 304,000 employees. This system claims it will add 450,000 permanent jobs. Was that just a gimmick to get votes. I would say it was. And why should those not benefiting in most of the state be burdened with this tremendous debt? If the cities that want the train and will benefit from the train vote for it. They should pay the bill. Not all the counties that are not in any way going to benefit. The best we can hope for is no one will loan that money to the state with their current financial condition. peer reviews: The FRA and U.C Berkeley studies also produced lower high-speed train ridership
Fourth Ford in a row...first Hybrid

I bought my first Ford (Mercury Lynx Wagon) in '82. It averaged better than 35 MPG and went 185,000 miles before we sold it in "89 to purchase our second Ford (Taurus L Wagon). It was driven 160,000 miles until '96 when we purchased our third Ford ('96 Taurus LX Wagon). Now with 191,000 miles on it we have made a purchase of a used 2007 FEH with 12,000 miles on it. We wanted the newest tech and gobs of gas mileage and I believe we have both it this vehicle. When driven carefully and using the electric motor in town the mileage can be astounding. Using side streets rather than the main throuoghfares here in Ogden, Utah I can achieve 50+ mpg on trips to the market, school and to the freeway. A trip in the freeway over to Clearfield and back home still left me with 38.3 mpg. There were two on the lot last week when I bought this and I'm seriously thinking about buying the other one. It has plenty of power, economy is stellar, usefullness is tops (I have a small tent trailer that weighs about 500 lbs loaded), and even my lead footed wife is hard pressed to get less than 35 mpg on her commute to West Valley City each day. It was used, so if anyone has a source for an owners manual ofr less than the dealer's $35 let me know.

Ok guys i made the deal last night as i had to get the Van. The Ball Honda dealer in national City got me the deal for 29400(including destination and pro pack). the OTD after taxes and fees was $32000. The ystill have hte nibus gray and slate green with Olive interiors. Please talk to the internet sales manager before going (Paul Najor). They promised me $29300 and when i went there they started saying it did not include desination and propack. I said the price that i was quoted was including every thing. I told them i have an other dealer offering me the same price and if i am not going to get the deal i am going to walk and i said i was willing to pay $29400(THe other dealers who offered me $29300 do not have the colors i need so i was willing to pay a $100 more). If you want it for $29300 you can try Fueller Honda in Chula Vista. Do not go to DCH , mission valley, Pacific Honda or Tipton these dealers are not willing to sell it below $30000)
New Tire Question
by jackaspades on Wed Sep 03 13:10:01 PDT 2008
2004 Sub Outback Sedan, 63,000 miles on car, same on OEM Bridgestone Potenza tires, looking for info on new All-Seasons. I know some of this has been covered in previous posts but my question deals with what all-season would be good for off-road driving as well as city/highway. I live in the NW, tend to drive somwhat spirited:) Only get a few days of snow a year so that isn't as much a concern as taking it on dirt/gravel forest service roads and since it is the "Valley" wet driving a must for good handlinig. What do ya'll suggest?

Can you post the dealership name, city and state info for both Acura dealers? The one you purchased from in the end and the one that offered you $200 less on a similar base MDX. Thanks.

If you are in the Northeast, try Wyoming Valley Motors out in Wilkes Barre, PA. I got my order in, no down, ETA end of Sept or early Oct. I live in NYC but travel to PA a lot, so that was not much of a stretch for me. Your situation may be different. If you live near a big city, try the outskirts. You'll be surprised, people outside of NYC are so much more agreeable. Good luck.
