I want to buy an Audi because I saw one in I Robot
by dewey on Thu Oct 12 07:36:55 PDT 2006
Audi wants to raise its image by raising its prices in the luxury market. Based on the information linked below it appears Audi wants to increase their prices by using marketing that has little substance: To improve its image, Audi is considering showcasing its cars in more product placements like it did in the science fiction movie "I, Robot." Does Audi honestly think that Product placements in movies like iRobot are going to make Audis more desirable? the Spring, it also held "lifestyle" events that offered test drives and featured partners such as exotic travel company Abercrombie & Kent, upscale stereo maker Bang & Olufsen, and motorcycle maker Ducati. Does Audi honestly think that lifestyle events with exotic travel companies, Ducati and Bang and Olufson is going to make their cars more desirable? De Nysschen and other Audi executives were in New York for the opening of an Audi Forum - a 6,400-square foot showroom on Manhattan's well-heeled Park Avenue, which de Nysschen said is one of Audi's efforts to improve its brand image. The showroom, which features an 8-foot by 6-foot high-definition video screen that meanders along the ceiling, can display up to five cars and offers passersby the opportunity to learn more about the brand. Does Audi honestly think that gradoise and ostenatatious showrooms will increase the desirability of owning a Audi? The desirability of Audis are dependent on their product-line It appears their marketing is focused on everything but their product-lines. IMO this new Bling approach of Audi is doomed to fail! ...and the pay is awesome - the UNDERGROUND pharmaceutical industry! Trouble is, you could end up dead or in jail. Regardless of the risks, a lot of our young 'uns are signing on as the only other opportunities are McJobs or going tens of thousands of dollars into debt to earn a degree for a job that may not be there. I see a lot of people with degrees still working their high school jobs at the Gap or Abercrombie because the work just isn't there anymore. You say health care? Well, when everybody else is either unemployed or underemployed and has little or no coverage who goes to the doctor? Heck, maybe we should all just join the military services. With a massive military, maybe we can get the power to turn on all these cowardly corrupt politicians and place real leaders in power!

It sounds to me that WWII was not won when you entered this world...me too... I remember the fantastic wicker "picnic baskets" from Abercrombie & Fitch on Madison Ave., when that was the only store. This is why the PHAETON brings a smile everytime I turn the key. I guess it is the simple elegance and refinement that I respond to the most...A lot of class; without all the flash. And, Sinatra, Ella, and Brubeck have never sounded better...That I will concede to our currently available technology.

Actually Abercrombie and Fitch's most recent claim to fame (or infamy) is their settlement of a class action racial discrimination suit in the US for the hiring practices in thier stores. I don't think Subaru would want that sort of association.

Now an Abercrombie and Fitch edition - there's something with real world-wide recognition. Are they now recognized for their products or the scantily dressed females in their catalogs??? Jim
Abercrombie and Fitch and other "editions"

That name has changed so much from what it once was. A&F used to be outdoor outfitters to the world; now it's just a higher-priced version of Old Navy/The Gap pitching to teens and early twentysomethings with suggestive catalogs and screen-printed t-shirts with borderline politically incorrect logos. Eddie Bauer was once the same as well; now it's just an extension of the Spiegel mail-order catalog. This morning I saw a Buick Regal with a strange diamond-shaped logo on the taillight. Closer inspcetion revealed it to be a "Joseph Abboud Edition" model. Now I have to wonder what kind of market research led GM to conclude that Abboud buyers would also buy Buicks. (I will avoid the obvious jokes re Buick editions and products used by seniors.) I've always been a little leery of designer "editions" going back to the days of the Bill Blass, Cartier, and Emilio Pucci Lincolns. Subaru and L.L.Bean make more sense to me, but I'm surprised that there's not more name recognition of that brand in Canada, given how close Bean's HQ in Freeport, Maine is to the Canadian border.
