First user Caramel, thanks. Hope you got my response. I am wondering if anybody knows, has experience etc with a Canadian leasing a car in USA and bringing to Canada for personal use. Implications are that I would need to find a leasing company willing, billing is easy i.e. credit card, export, I am sure the Gov administration on boths sides would have something to say or at least some hoops to jump through. Off to San Diago for the Rugby 7's so will not be on this system until mid Feb. Lots of time for everyone to have their two bits about this question. Thanks el
Re: What Cars are E39 5-Series Owners Buying? [manybmws]

Interesting question that, as a 2003 e39SP owner, I have been unwilling to answer yet :D My titanium silver/black beauty has been a fabulous ownership experience and I've said before that I'd just as soon drop the wonderful new TT engine into my car than give it up - if that were possible! I've driven the 535SP and it is a terrific car with the most comfortable seats I've experienced. Sport option a must and do not recommend active steering. I'm 55 and have just had both knees replaced (20-year rugby career "been berry berry good to me"), so improved ingress/egress over the e39 a plus. Just can't warm up to the Infinity M35/45 - looks like it could be the latest Nissan Maxima to my eye (the new G37 Coupe a much better effort by far and very nice). The Lexus GS is both tight and soft for me, although beautifully built and detailed. The MB E350/550 is on the cusp of a major series change, so a bit long in the tooth and resale bound to take a hit. I simply find the BMW to be the more engaging sedan from both a styling (controversial to some) and performance perspective. Similarly equiped, the new 5er runs about $7K more than my e39, so will hang on to mine a while longer until I am simply bowled over emotionally enough to buy something new.

Regarding seat comfort... my 2003 530i with the Sport Pkg has fairly firm articulating sport seats that I find comfortable for 500 mile drives (Atlanta to Orlando area). Even with the sport suspension set-up, the car goes down the road unlike any sedan I've driven. That said, I've driven the new 535i w/Sport Pkg and found the new "comfort seats" to be incredible. They offer additional articulation options (upper back, headrest cushion for neck, etc) and even fit my large frame better. I'm a retired Rugby player (6'5"/260lbs) who really needs comfortable seats, especially now that I've had both knees replaced. I found the new 535i with Sport option to be the 1st car I'd consider giving up my beautiful 2003 for ;) Whether in the 535 or 528, I'd recommend a lengthy drive and am confident that you will find the seats to be terrific.

I agree with all the positives you mentioned about the minivan. Especially convenient are the sliding doors. But it seems like you've decided on a CUV and you say you will "probably end up buying one, thereby keeping my self respect, and the boys from shrivelling away in embarrassment." It's too bad you have to cave into peer pressure or believe and buy into the "stigma" of a minivan being for "soccer moms" - another made up "label". What if Dad's started hauling their kids and kids friends to other events? Then you could be considered a "football dad" a "wrestling dad", a "rugby dad", a "rock concert dad", etc. You get the picture. Who gives a S..t if others have negative thoughts about the vehicle you drive. Drive what you like and want and can afford. Are you insecure? You couldn't keep your self respect if you bought a minivan ? That's ridiculous. I could understand if you don't like the outside appearance, but the interiors, the drive of some, safety features, options are as good as the CUV's. So people bought SUV's to feel macho. How macho do they feel when they're flipped over on the side of a road or get crappy gas mileage and have gas guzzler fees. I don't think those drivers are macho. Other words come to mind. I'm waiting to check out the Enclave and new Chrysler T&C or Dodge GC 2008 minvans coming this summer that look more aggressive than previous yrs. They're squared off more like the Durango and Aspen SUV's. Maybe the stigma will pass. And you can load up these 2008's with more features than any of the CUV's in the discussion. The only thing some of the CUV's are better at is towing capacity. Enclave may not have Bluetooth for awhile. Bummer - that's about the only thing missing that I would definitely want. The 2008's minivans have Bluetooth available. Hope I like them.
