Re: Update on '04 Forester XT needing new engine [tanager]
by xwesx on Mon Nov 17 16:23:50 PST 2008
Well, I am glad to hear you have it running again, but it was certainly no easy situation for you. As for the lifter tick - I don't think the lifters are adjustable on the 04 models, are they? I know they once were, but then the cam designs were changed. I am not sure when Forester's engine was affected. Double check your oil level and grade. I find Subaru engines to be quite sensitive to oil level when it comes to hearing those lifters. I had a terrible oil leak on my '96 Outback for a little while, though, and it got to the point where I had to put *at least* a quart of oil in it on every fuel up (~250-300 miles!). The lifters ticked probably as much as they didn't tick. Once I pulled the engine and replaced the faulty seals, it was quiet again and ran another 80,000 miles with no problem, so your engine's noise may not be a sign of impending doom. Maybe. :D

He's asking too much money I think in the November 2008 market--at least given the info he is offering in the ad. The car is basically totalled. On a good day, running well and looking good, this is a $10,000 car right now. (I bet he didn't even pay that for it). With a bad engine and bad steering box and no mention whatsoever of cosmetics, I'm not surprised he's attracting moose flies. Maybe he needs to rewrite the ad and say more about the BODY and INTERIOR and CHROME, which is, after all, the only saleable portions! Maybe you can help him out! A new set of words will do him wonders.
To all GMC Yukon owners:
by skytop1 on Mon Nov 17 16:07:29 PST 2008
GM is now offering a whopping $8000. instant rebate and ZERO percent financing on new Yukons. Sounds good? Think again. GM has reduced the value of your SUV by at least $8000. or more. They have also severely reduced the public's perceived value of their product. GM products are being seen as shoddy and value challenged. GM is deliberately canabilizing their own customer base and destroying resale value of all GM products. All GM vehicle owners are losers now since your auto investment has fizzled. This is how GM is going to run their business even after the morons in congress give 15 BILLION dollars to this out of control auto company. GM does not have a clue but they know how to hurt their customers big time. Make sure you patronize GM because they don't give a damn about YOU.

Re: Brembo Brakes [jmccants]

I'm not saying for sure you don't need new brakes, but, generally speaking, squeaking does not mean your pads are worn. Your brakes could still squeak with brand new pads.
MPG was hurt by disconecting battery...
by xtierra on Mon Nov 17 15:52:43 PST 2008
with my 2005 xterra auto 4X2, out of nowhere i was getting 10.-- mpg.........went into panic trying to figure out what the problem was... cleaned injectors, throtle body, mass sensor, new plugs, new tranny fluid, new rear diff fluid and got up to 11.-- mpg...........found mechanic that pluged his nissan computer and found engine performance at 86% he re-set everything and brought it back to 100% then told me to leave shop to highway to keep rpm's from 1,000 to 1,500 and to get to 60 mph for 15 to 20 minutes while computer was going through re-learning process for driving habits..... went on a 253 mile trip through mountain area and averaging 70 to 80 mph..... MPG= 20.-- back to normal...... i had cleaned my battery posts 3 weeks ago right about when the problem began..... and began driving the truck as i always do wich caused the re-learn process to be set with those 2,000 rpm's+ if you have disconected battery, you might have caused your re-learn air/fuel mixture to be set abnorlmal causing you to be getting an abnormal MPG.... or make you think its that so called winter fuel mixture from gas station.........
