Re: serenity now... [kirstie_h]

I am quite serene, now. Some confusion is understandable, though. Hazen used the statement "very near future." Post #29 (with no link) indicated "early 2007." Car and Driver mentioned production about a year from now. (no idea if that was a guess or if they had inside info.) Typically, if production begins after January 1, the model is referred to as the next years model, correct? So, if production begins in 2/08, we would likey call it a 2009 model based on past practice. I saw the quotes from suppliers about the February 2008 date, but has Ford had a press release that indicated a timeframe?
My son and his RDV

Hazen is two and a half years old. Before ordering our RDV, we were at the dealership to discuss our potential order (okay, I was doing most of the talking). Our sales person gave him a balloon and one of the RDV replicas to play with. To h3ll with the balloon, he wanted the car! When our business was done, Hazen was not happy to learn he had to give the model back to the dealer. He handed the replica to the sales person and maintained his composure while his lower lip quivered. Our sales person promised to get us a replica if we ordered through them. Since then we have been in touch to remind her of her promise however, I wasn't holding my breath... our deal was done. Well, last Saturday Hazen and I went to get the mail. I opened our mailbox and Hazen walked headfirst into the mailbox door! No blood, but someone was screaming bloody murder until I told him there was a package for him. Tears became giggles as we headed back to the house. When we opened the package, an RDV box was inside. Looking at trademark multicolored box, Hazen yelled "Rendezvous" and started clapping his hands with excitement. After all of the information my wife and I reviewed, Hazen associated the trademark box with the Rendezvous... and not just the car, but the NAME of the car! We opened the box and sure enough, Hazen got his replica. However, the replica wasn't from our dealer or from Buick. Using this forum, CWJ picked up on the fact that the dealer wasn't going to come through on their promise. After an exchange of email and offering a reciprocal trade agreement, CWJ simply sent us the replica. From the bottom of our heart, thank you CWJ. To us grown-ups, it's no big thing. But to a two year old, having a little car that looks like mom and dad's big car is a lot of fun. Personally, it's great to know there are still people in this world who are willing to do something for others without wanting anything in return. Again, thank you for the replica. And to those of you who have kids, be aware. Be VERY aware! We have NO idea what our children are going to pick up on. Who would have thought Hazen would associate the trademark RDV box with the name of the vehicle. Now if only I could get him to associate football with the Raiders (no comments from the peanut gallery. That means YOU J325!). Go Raiders! R5

My third row seat back is pretty smooth, so I have nothing to report to you on that front. Ken - it is a pleasantly surprising vehicle, isn't it. I inadvertantly confirmed its cargo capacity yesterday when I found myself with some unexpected and unplanned for cargo which would have been impossible to carry in either of our cars and would have been frustratingly "just too large" to fit most other small to medium SUV's (luxury or otherwise). I simply dropped the third row, flipped the seatbacks flat on the captain's chairs and it slid right in. As for the behind third row space problem, I acknowledge the problem and don't mean to minimize it. However, I will suggest that this is not necessarily specifically a Rendezvous problem as it is a general smaller than full size vehicle problem. However, the complaint about the lack of grocery space seems a little exagerated to me on at least two counts. First, I have a little difficulty visualizing more than five people going grocery shopping at any one time being that common an occurance, so the simultaneous need for both the third row and grocery space seems a little overblown. Second, has anyone else noticed that the third row can be locked in position so that the seat back is straight up and down? Now I know this is useless for carrying people, but it does create a neat little trunk space between the third row and the liftgate for securely carrying packages and groceries so they don't roll around the cargo area. A very nice little benefit that I don't think the manual mentions. I discovered it by accident when I went to drop the third row and ended up locking it in this upright position instead. Just thought the board might find this of interest. R5 - I'm still on my first tank of gas (dealer delivered Gammera with a full tank) so you're at least one tank ahead of me. Hazen's package will go out priority mail tomorrow. Go Packers! CWJ

I received a call from our Dealership (Metro Ford) in Lansing. The customer relations Manager, Kathy Hazen, worked really hard for us. After much research and tears. She finally had a meeting with our regional rep and they are going to cover 75% of all parts and labor to replace the blown engine. I am so relieved. At least it will be covered long enough to pay off the van and get something else. Thanks for all the tips.
