Re: The end of Ethanol [texases]
by avalon02wh on Thu Jun 19 15:47:13 PDT 2008
"How do you know which gas has it? " The local refinery in Mandan, Tesoro, does not put ethanol in RUG. Or at least they are not supposed to. Apparently we don't always get what we think we are getting in our tank of petrol. http://www.bismarcktribune.com/articles/2007/08/27/news/business/doc46d2f792bcd8- 7651868756.txt "I think. At least by the BTUs, E10 should drop economy by about 3%." That is what I thought. The extra drop of 1 to 2% may not be the result of E10, unless the truck drivers are over filling on ethanol at the rack? I know for example, that E85 is not always 85% ethanol. In winter they sometimes get down to 70% ethanol. http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/02/27/when-is-e85-not-85-percent-ethanol-when-- its-e70-with-an-e85-st/ I suspect sometimes the E10 is more like E15. Are people gaming the system? Ethanol is cheaper. I wouldn't put it past people to make the occasional mistake and get a bit more of the cheaper ethanol in the blend. After looking at my mpg, it will not be possible to prove that my car is getting worse than 3% mpg by using E10. There are too many variables to consider (wind, new tires, inflation pressures, different terrain). For now I'll stick with plain RUG. Maybe if E10 became 20 cents cheaper than RUG I'll consider it.
Misfire on Cylinder 5 - need to figure out why
by dakota6479 on Wed Jun 04 05:18:11 PDT 2008
I have a 1998 Ram with the 360. Last week the check engine light came on and the code says misfire on cylinder 5. Pulled the plugs and they all are fine. Plug wires are new. Any ideas what may be the problem?

fedora, hopefully I can give you some advice on visiting ND, seeing as how I'm a resident here. As far as winters go, ND winters aren't bad in terms of excessive snowfall. In fact, the roads are usually clear - the only downside is the wind. Anyway, if you're debating between visiting during either fall or spring, I have to recommend fall. It's still plenty warm here in August and September while being fairly balanced. If you do make it for fall, I'd like to recommend the southwest side of the state, namely Dickinson and Medora. Failing that, give the Bismarck-Mandan area a try. I'm a big fan of autumn and rest assured you'd be in for a treat if you tried a ND fall. This is coming from someone who had previously lived in WI, so I'm a bit picky about my seasons!

Most likely you will have to take the tire off, remove the inner panel and take it out that way. That's what I had to do to my 98 Stratus. Be carefule removing the clips though, they break easily.

Technically it is supposed to have a cat on it. However, they are not necessary for the engine to function properly. I took the cat off my 98 Ram not long after I bought it. Taking the cat off increases air flow and results in greater power. The check engine light only came on once for the O2 sensor, used a scan tool to remove the code and its never come on again. My truck actually gets better mileage with the cat gone. I plan to do the same to my 98 Grand Cherokee Limited when we need to replace the exhaust. Luckily we live in a state that doesn't require cat's.

If everything underneath the snow is ice, the 4WD won't help much.
