Re: Tires - Counterpoint [habitat1]

I don't buy it. In driving a sports car or sports sedan, you basically control 4 things: accelerating, braking, steering and shifting gears. So then you concede that since you can control the shifting of gears with today's manumatics, that they are indeed sports cars. :) I'm glad we agree. Also on a side note, all this time I have been playing devil's advocate on this as I am also an MT Fan. I currently drive an 05 Legacy GT Wagon 5MT (Quite a rare car in an MT) and I am looking to purchase an 09 G8, but am going to probably wait til the GXP version comes out for the sole reason that it's the only variant available in an MT option. Unfortuantely folks like us who buy MT sports sedans are few and far between and as our numbers shrink we will be forced to get an AT of some kind or another. Back on topic, if the RL AWD 6MT were cheaper it would be on my list of cars to drive in my upcoming shopping for a car, but it's likely outside my price range :( -mike Motorsports and Modifications Host

Yes. As they say, "the devil is in the details". Which Goodyears are you referring to? The Michelins I purchased and praised without reservation in a previous post to this thread are Pilot Exaltos that cost about $110 each at Costco. They were very highly rated for all driving conditions by Tiretrak and I can confirm that they are excellent. I have yet to own a Bridgestone that I liked, Potenza or Turenza they have horrible wet condition control in FWD applications...they literally slide in turns. I had the Michelins in icy, snowy condition around Lake Placid, NY and was amazed by the traction these all season performance tires provided.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just playing devil's advocate here. I drive a Subaru, so I'm no snob and definitely not brand concious. I basically had a GTO ready to buy but then a friend sold me his lightly used LGT Wagon w/5speed so I went for that over the GTO cause it was only 18k out the door with 15k miles on it and was a bit more practical. I think that targeting the Charger and Tarus and even the Maxima are great targets to go for as that's the clientel that will buy the G8. The BMW, Acura, MB, and Infinitiy buyers are different class of people and really aren't the Pontiac demographic. -mike
Outside noise entering cabin - excessive?
by carnutpa on Fri Jun 08 18:09:03 PDT 2007
I am taking a hard look at the 2007 RL. I test drove one today. It's a great car but I did note that I can hear the cars and trucks swishing by on the road. I had the radio off and all windows closed. I have a 2002 (5 year old) Cadillac DeVille and I can barely hear any outside noise. This is my main concern in contemplating the purchase. I am used to a quieter car and struggling with this issue. Any thoughts?
Re: All the CTS Enthusiasm. . . LS? [rayainsw]
by paisan on Wed May 16 05:35:37 PDT 2007
I actually hope the CTS-V is NOT watered down to a manumatic. For those folks who want a V8 + Automatic there is the CTS regular w/V8 available. The CTS-V is essentially a race car with leather and a nice stereo. That's the idea behind the V series is luxury coupled with real race car stats. I believe also that they would need to sell a certain number of MT versions in order to compete with the CTS in certain sanctioning bodies races. Interestingly a friend who is not at all a "car guy" looked at the STS AWD v. his Jaguar X-type and went with the X-type due to the bundling on the STS of Bluetooth with the Navigation. He wanted stand alone blue tooth and couldn't get it in the caddy apparently but could in the jag. He also said the turn signals felt/sounded like his '85 Caddy Deville and he thought they should have been updated. Weird how luxury buyers think. -mike

Actually I got out of Wall Street and don't condone outright bribes, just playing major devils advocate with you guys :) Interesting to see some of the reactions though. A bit of cash to smooth things out never hurts. Unfortunately it's the way of the world. -mike
