Good to hear from a kindred spirit. I remember running Texas Canyon back in '78, but I quit going that way once I figured out that it was shorter (& quicker, with the 55 mph limits then) to run through Globe & Safford. I've hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon three or four times & certainly appreciate it as well. The greenies won't be happy until we're all walking and/or riding bicycles, with the (rare) use of public transit for everything else. Something like being barefoot & pregnant comes to mind. Oh wait, that's a different downtrodden class, and that one's in the PC "protected" group.

"...Oh an end run insult..." No insult intended. Merely giving testament to your persistence in arguing your point. It seems Isell has found a kindred spirit. ;)

Dennis, I believe you and I are kindres spirits! :) It isn't in my cards to own an NSX either but holy cow do I still love them, even if they are what, 14 years old? I could almost afford to timeshare one! I also have a scale model at my office! Mine is black but anyway, back to the point... I've always loved the digital readout, the tach's bar graph I personally find helpful, especially in the beginning of ownership. There is no staring at the dash to obtain speed or RPMs, just a quick glance and then you can focus on the road again.

I guess that we are of a kindred spirit. I also had the lead in the senior play---playing an old man of all things. Little did I know. I was also the vocalist in a local rock band. We actually made it as far as a Saturday morning TV show in Charlotte, N.C. on WBTV. That was it. I left for college to be a minister which changed into being a teacher. I didn't think that I was good enough to be a minister, so I gave up my scholarship. Seeing some ministers now, perhaps I could have made it. ;) To stay on topic: I didn't have a car in college---just my old bicycle. I was lucky to have my peanut butter sandwiches during the week and six beers on Saturday night. :shades: Richard

For what it's worth, there is at least one other kindred spirit to the "wise and ancient" spiritinthesky. The gentleman who is getting my dealer's first (and possibly only) GT2 next month is also trading out of a 997 Turbo. I met him when I picked my car up for service. In a nutshell, he is trading becasue he wants a lighter, faster, more nimble car and is willing to give up the "stability" of AWD and certain creature comforts to get it. Prior to the Turbo, he had a Ferrari 360 and had been considering a 430. His opinion on the GT-R was surprisingly complimentary. He thinks Nissan has done an "excellent" job of high performance engineering relative to the track performance of the car. But, as many others have suggested, at nearly 4,000 lbs and without a manual transmission, he thinks the GT-R would be more comparable to driving an SL63 or BMW M6 on public roads. A "different animal" than the GT2/GT3 or Ferrari 430. P.S. Regarding making the 997 Turbo faster, he is selling his Turbo to his nephew who owns a slightly modified 996 Turbo with 550 hp/ 550 ft.lbs at the wheels and that has been clocked at 11.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile. He will be shooting for "mid 10's" with the 997. But, as both of us agreed, stop light drag racing isn't our top priority.

I have been looking at the Journey as my next car. I will be coming from my beloved 10 year old Avenger ES which is near the end of its life. The Avenger has served me very well but now my life demands a bigger car. I detest SUV's but now with a family and a fix er up house i need the room. I have looked at the Caliber in the past but it was a little on the small side and the exterior look is kinda weird. I have been anticipating the Journey's arrival (being built on the new avenger frame adds a kindred spirit as well) ...so when they arrived at the local dealership I checked one out. As said above, the salesman was ignorant of the Journey's fine points. The exterior finish is very nice and not awkward like the caliber, I love the lay flat seating, i think it can fit a sheet of plywood without problems. The seats are a little thin but surprisingly comfortable, The SX has very nice base options as well. Overall, its a great buy and a front runner as my next vehicle. Weird thing...if you use dodge's bnuild your own the price on a SX with 3rd row seat and 3-zone A/C is only a hundred or so more than the standard 2 row with dual zone A/C. The only question remaining is how well (and long) this CUV works as designed under the new owners at Dodge.
