So far no good! - Oil Leak
by janssoner on Mon Jan 14 10:03:53 PST 2008
Picked up my new 2008 Silver fully loaded Town & Country on Thursday. Got home parked in driveway and started playing with seats, tables, MyGig, etc. We then went out for a drive to pick up my daughter from work. When we got home I parked it further up the driveway and then noticed about a 1 foot diameter oil spot from where I was parked before. I checked under the car and sure enough a drip came down. I called the dealer and she said she could give me an appointment on Monday. I said the car is brand new!, only had it a few hours!. She said she was told not to make any more appointments for Friday. I asked to speak to the manager. She asked for my number so he could call me back. I then spoke with the salesman who said of course bring it in tomorrow (Friday). The manger finally did call back and he said the same. So Friday 7:00 I was there. They said it might not take long so I could wait. An hour later they said it will take longer than they had expected it should be fixed by Monday or Tuesday and that they would call Enterprise and rent me a car. So now I went from top of the line Town & Country to bottom of the line PT Crusier. Now Monday I called and they said most likely Tuesday. I said what are you doing replacing the engine? Something about order a part, came in Saturday, and the guy who does that (“what is that”) won’t be in to later. I called the salesman, who looked into it and pretty much got the same answer. I still don’t know what exactly is wrong. I had a similar (leak) with a brand new Mercedes, they fixed it (about 4 hours) and never another problem, so hopefully the same here. So hopefully I will get my car back tomorrow (I’ve had it about ½ a day, Chrysler has had it 5 days) and needless to say I am not happy!!!

If you plan on keeping the Pacifica, try and negotiate that 17K downward. Check the trade-in value (KBB.com), I'm sure it's less than that. My residual was 19k and my KBB value was 15K. If you want something new, they are more than willing to work with you. They ate my 5 last payments plus the 1500 rebate for me.

I think if you look at your receipt you will see you paid sales tax on Price of Pacifica - trade-in. Which if you were leasing it would have been Price - Trade-in - Residual value. If you go to the end of your Smart-Buy you should be fine, you might have to pay a final termination fee, unless of course you re-lease/buy etc from Chrysler. Good luck.

Thanks, I figure it can't hurt to ask. Also figure the dealership can't try and cheat me because the money goes to NYS and this can't be the first situation like this with all of the smart-buys they wrote over the last few years (I think the law has been changed now and they are back to straight leases).

Yes, the salesman said that Chrysler would eat three payments and the dealership would eat two.

No I actually have a New York State Title (I also of course have the registration), that says "One lien attached".
