Re: Bobst Car Buying Method [madmanmoo]

That was good, Madman. Actually, we had a nice gourmet lunch at an Olive Garden in Manassas not far from the famous battlefield. It was a little different than car buying. After they refused my lowball over for our lunch, we tried to walk out but their bouncer stopped us. Have you ever considered having a bouncer at your store?
Whats up with those Mercedes?

I saw a Mercedes the other day just parked in between 2 toll booths on the Exit 142(Garden Stare Parkway)exit ramp for I-78 West in Springfield, New Jersey. 10 minutes I saw another Mercedes sitting on the shoulder on Parkway North in Bloomfield, NJ by Exit 148. I also saw a mid 90's Land Cruiser sitting on the shoulder somwehere(forget where) this week.

How good is my Mazda 6? Wow what a question you have asked. A while back my friends on this forum made fun of me for a long while for naming the car Kecia and expressing my love for the car. We're a good bunch on here, though we disagree (Hyundai worshippers vs the real world :P ). That was underhanded, I know :) . Anyhow, I love driving that car. I rented one and drove it from Western MA into Manhattan before I bought mine just to see how it was really like. The car handles like a dream. One other poster said the car was a psychic mind reader. It is the only car that handles like a BMW in my opinion. I spent a day driving a 3 Series and several weeks driving and Infiniti G35. There are certain things you buy in life, like a ticket to a movie you are dying to see, or a dinner that you have been waiting to eat all day, where you are happy to give the money for it. Everytime I cut the check for my Mazda, I am almost greatful to do so. Now about the looks. THis is a true story. I was pulled over on the Mass Pike doing 87 in a 65 real late one night, like 2am. The cop looked at my car. He said "I really like this car. Did it come with the wood inside like that?" I told him how I had to order the assorted wood pieces aftermarket (door trim pieces and a wooden medium burl shift knob which I secured to the shift staff by using the screws provided and the interior lining of a garden hose). Anyhow, he gave me a warning, told me to slow down, and I was on my way. By the way, the G35 starts at $30,500 with a good load of features. Only thing I'd add would be the automatic tranny and a sunroof. Everything else is there standard. Check over on the website, you'll be very surprised.
I disagree, Mass

I you are buying a new car and have a trade-in, I think it is best to present an offer like we did in 1995. I told the salesman that I would give him our Taurus and $13600 for a new Honda. Nice and simple. It didn't waste anybody's time. After we gave him our offer, he told me to take a hike. So I left. The next day, I went somewhere else, offered $13750 plus the Taurus, they accepted, I wrote them a check for exactly that amount, and my daughter and I drove our new Honda to the Olive Garden for lunch. I also took the advice of the first salesman and began hiking the Appalachian Trail. A couple years ago, I even spent 2 weeks on the AT, going thru Shenandoah National Park and almost reaching Harpers Ferry. That was too long - I missed my wife to much. That will teach me to listen to car salesmen.

Wow! Fantastic mileage! Especially in NJ. I believe, it is very hard to drive in the "Garden State". They are always complaining about traffic on NJ highways. People do not complain so much about I-95 in the CT/NY area, nor about the route(s) from CT to the JFK airport. NJ must be much worse. When I measured the highway mileage with my 98 Malibu last summer, it was 31.5 mph, as well as I remember. Well, I have a heavy foot. And never tried to save gas: I like the feel of accelerations. But, any case, this is highway, not a city. I believe, my wife would get 10% better mileage (she always gets), but not 38 miles per gallon. Did you use cruise control? About my test. It was a short trip from New Haven, CT to the border of Vermont and back by the I-91. Very nice route: hills and low mountains farther to North. Roughly 4 hours the both ways, including a half-hour stop. It was a hot summer day. Air condition on 3. Moderate to heavy traffic about 60% of distance, heavy one in/around Hartford CT, and Springfield MA. Traffic became light soon after Springfield. Average speed for the trip was 65 mph. Down to 50 mph in Springfield, higher in light traffic, but I kept the speed less than 80 mph all time. In our places it is normal to drive about 10 mph above the posted speed limit, with good road conditions. But more than 15 mph above is generally considered speeding.
