It's in the driveway!!!

OK, I'm a 36 year old frugal person who wanted something different. I walked into Palm Springs (CA) Infiniti last Saturday and today after much trepidation, my 2007 G35 Journey (fully loaded Nav, Prem, Tech, tinting, black obsidian...) showed up! That's right -- they drove it 45 miles to MY house to bring it to ME b/c I couldn't get back out there (not trading in my current car). yeah, yeah, it's the end of the month crunch, but I have nothing but great things to say about the quality of service from Jay Tulli, my sales consultant. He brought the papers and stayed for over an hour showing me how to use the features of my new car, set up the bluetooth for my cell phone, and was patient and helpful. i've never had this experience with a car sale. I think it's more than just getting into the luxury market...he really knew this car and treated me as the buyer, and didn't focus on my boyfriend who usually got the attention as we were out shopping at other dealerships (uh, hem, VW San Bernardino...) even though we told them it's my money; my car. I haven't even taken it for a spin yet -- I'm scared of this car! LOL ;) My boyfriend is thankful. i have no excuse backing up over and breaking the sprinklers again in the silly grass strips we have in our driveway -- the rear-camera is sweet!

Thanks Car_man. Any way to confirm the numbers? The Dealer (Tully Mazda in Nashua, NH) is quoting me a residual of 67% for the Touring S Sedan. Just want to know, since a % point or two could make a difference in my decision. Thanks. -Jicbulk
Pulled the trigger....

on a Mazda3 S Touring Sedan with 5 spd Only option I wanted was the Moonroof/Cd package in Phantom Blue (we have a grey truck and a silver CR-V, so I had to go different...). Tully Mazda in Nashua, NH gave us the AAA deal of $300 over invoice. Showed me the invoice which matches Edmunds exactly. They add in a $25 title fee and $99 admin fee which are very competitive here in New England. They actually did a search for the car and found one in RI that also had the wheel locks. No problem and we pick it up a week from today. Looking forward to it.... :shades: -Jicbulk

Are Dealerships Becoming Less and Less Alike?
by blckislandguy on Mon Dec 06 19:43:12 PST 2004
Have dealer showrooms and the sales people in them, gottern less and less similar when compared across brands? Recently, I've been in a number of dealerships and the difference between the European imports and the American dealerships seems to be getting larger. The sales guys in a BMW store, for example, are significantly different in dress, looks, age, education, etc. from a domestic store. The import showrooms are also less cluttered and have high tech stainless steel decor and free coffe set up for customers. Porche dealers seem the most brand-consistent with their stainless steel exteriors, spotless interiors, absolutely spit shined service areas, etc. (They also seem to have zero floor traffic so keeping all this clean may not be a problem.) On the other hand, the only free coffe in domestic stores seems to be the stains in their carpets. Rather than "Client Advisors" the domestic stores have overly-groomed "managers" posted up in elevated podiums just like the PT instructors at Ft. Benning to watch the sales guys work over the prospects. No one is going to offer to show you the service area in a domestic store. Even a multiline dealership (e.g., Tully BMW, GM, Buick, in NH) with their brands located in adjoining buildings exhibits this pattern. Seems like dealerships and their people are becoming more and more specialized?

Regarding Tully, I leased my 2002 530i through Park Place Motors in New Jersey (as that was where I lived at the time), and found that they were very easy to work with on the price discussions for an ED car. As for my two service experiences with Tully (or is it Tulley?), I have absolutely no complaint. Even though I leased my car through a different dealership, they were totally friendly and professional, even to the point of "Trying" a just released software update on my OBC to clear up a drivability problem that I was experiencing (I drive a stick and was having a very difficult time shifting smoothly because the engine would often stumble). New software and problem solved, and they even did it while I waited. ;-) Due to a number of factors I'm probably going to be BMWless for a year or so starting at lease end this coming spring. After that time, my current plan is to lease a new E90 330i (three pedal version of course), and Tulley will get the first opportunity to do a deal (probably ED again), and if they don't want to play nice, then I'll look further afield. ;-) Good luck in your search. Best Regards, Shipo
