Just bought 2005 GTI 1.8T
by maristella on Sun Nov 16 08:35:37 PST 2008
I was looking for a fun car and had a great experience at Jim Ellis VW of Marietta, GA. Has luxury pkg.,clean title, 23k miles, 3y/36k mi. ext. warranty and paid 19800 OTD. Love the moonson radio, will get ipod connector installed. Any suggestions on where to get VW accesories cheaper than dealer, like a bra, spoiler?
Coolant Disappearance
by bronsonb on Wed Nov 12 08:14:51 PST 2008
I have a 1999 Passat V6 (2.0 Liter engine) with 135,000 miles. Over the past few months we've been dealing with a coolant leak that cannot be located. I've had the car to our mechanic a number of times, and he's done two pressure tests, with the engine running and with it not running, and he even left the test to run all night on one occasion, but he gets no coolant loss during these test. However, about every other week, I have to add 1 - 2 cups of coolant to the reservoir. I see no other signs of leakage. The mechanic also replaced the reservoir cap at one point, but that hasn't stopped it either. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Emailed all of the atl dealers where I could find an internet contact and Sutherlin came the best with the car closest to what I wanted/needed in stock and ready to go. I could have done without the mirror and have warmed up to the touring version with Stability and Traction FYI I actually got a little bit better price from Rick Case but they would have had to drive the car in from South Carolina...if I would have stayed with a 2008. Jim Ellis in Marietta and Hennesy in Southlake also put bids on the table and likely would have come in pretty close but I needed to move fast. Did all of the prelims on the internet. FYI you can go to the Mazda site and see inventory in real time. The dealer sites are not good. Going to Mazda.com was how I was able to tell where the car one dealer quoted on was located and helped me move a little quicker. It was 200 miles away and I did not wnt the first 200 mile put on by one of their drivers I also found that sales are way off and they are really willing to work a deal. Go the internet and Upromise routes and then follow-up from there. I would shoot for about 300 below invoice, let them get their 2% and their too high doc fees and you should be golden. Good luck
let's talk about cars

All I see/hear/read these days, pretty much everywhere, are about war and other grim stuff. This is one of few places I divert to from all those. I am sure they are important topics that affect our lives and I do follow them closely, but let's keep this board off those topics. Maybe somebody should open a new discussion title outside.

Yeah I was attracted to this car after seeing pics, but $42K for the V6 sport loaded is a bit high for a VW, you are smack in G37 low end BMW territory and honeslty a different class, but a loaded Genesis is $40K and may likely be more reliable, just more of a luxury ride.
Re: nervous about buying passat [victorino]

I guess my opinion would be that folks don't buy a VW Passat hoping for it to be a gas sipper. You're looking at two different classes of automobiles between the Passat and the Civic. The Civic is meant to be a gas sipper while the Passat is a performance vehicle. In our V6, we get 22 - 24 MPG in the city and upwards of 30 MPG on the highway. The thing with Passats (and all VWs) is that maintenance could kill you if you're not prepared for it. I've never owned a Honda, so I can't speak to their costs, but I know you'll be shocked when you hear that your Passat needs new front brakes and it's $900! So if you're looking for good gas mileage, I'd stick to the Civic/Prius/Corolla class.
