Buffalo, NY Car Consumer Discussions

new vs. used, financing vs. cash by nyccarguy on Thu Feb 09 11:34:00 PST 2012

I didn't mean to throw up a topic & start an argument between 2 posters. Especially q who is our resident auction maven & 135i driver and flightnurse who tracks his ZHP on a regular basis & found an awesome E90 low optioned 328i w/ SP & stick. "Can't we all just get along?" Like I stated, I've only bought (or leased) new cars since the glorious day I got my license back in August 1992. I'm happy with my 2010 Acura TSX as a DD (could use more power, hydraulic steering, & MUCH better brakes), but am not head over heels in love with it (like I am my 2001 Prelude Type SH). My TSX was also a car that I bought originally for my wife with Cash 4 Clunkers money that I knew I'd be driving on the weekend, but not every day. This changed when we decided to have a 3rd child and now needed a bigger vehicle. Bought her a 2011 Pilot, The 2010 TSX becomes my DD, & my beloved Prelude gets driven once or twice a week (yes it gets the garage with the Pilot). I'm always thinking (building online & checking out used car values) about what's next. I know the financially smart thing to do is to pay off the TSX (just refinanced), and drive it with no payment until the wheels fall off. Cars are my "thing." I've been hooked on BMWs ever since I drove a friend's '95 E36 325is (stick, sport) through the streets of Buffalo one winter night when I was in college. I leased my wife an '07 X3 and just loved the way it drove. It was never in the shop once except for scheduled maintenance. With 3 kids and a mortgage, I think it would be selfish of me to go out and buy an almost $50K car (328xi or X3). If in a few years, I can muster together a small down payment, then I can convince the board of directors (my wife) that this Mid to high used $20K BMW (X3 or 328xi) is what i want and I think it'll last, then I'll go for it! Life's way too short to drive boring cars.

Re: Super Bowl Observations [jipster] by nyccarguy on Tue Feb 07 18:10:24 PST 2012

They backed into the division championship? How'd they do that again? Oh yeah, they beat the cowboys. TWICE in 4 weeks. Yes the Giants were 9-7. They had tons of injuries from the get go, early in the season. Justin Tuck was hurt so badly during the season that he considered benching himself because he felt he was a detriment to the team. They went toe to toe with the Packers (lost by 3) & San Francisco during the regular season. They had some awful games (Washington, Seattle), but won when it counted against The Jets & Dallas. Atlanta sports teams are a joke, so there was NO DOUBT in my mind they were going to beat the Falcons. Green Bay was the defending Super Bowl champs with only 1 loss for the entire season with the league MVP running their offense. They went into Green Bay's sanctuary and sent them on their merry way. They fought hard and got a very lucky break durin the San Fran (13-3 on the year) game. They WON. They beat NE during the regular season & it wasn't an accident thru did it again. Who did the Giants beat on the way to the Super Bowl last time around? Tampa Bay, Dallas (in Dallas), Green Bay (in the 20 degree weather where Farve never lost), & the (then) undefeated New England Patriots. Big Ben is probably the toughest QB in football right now. Eli Manning is right up there with him. He's the guy I want running my offense in the 4th quarter. You cannot look me in the eye with a straight face and tell me you'll take "Laces Out" Romo. Who won the 1st game in your $100 million dollar Jerry Jones Stadium? The New York Giants! How many cowboy Super Bowl victories came against the "ultimate choking machine" Buffalo Bills (boy I love loosing super bowls)? The last time the cowboys were relevant, Vanilla Ice was popular. The Giants might not be "America's Team," but they are Super Bowl Champions and nobody can take that away from them.

Re: 2012 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES and options - good deal? [jjc0821] by tommylaws1 on Sat Feb 04 18:53:55 PST 2012

This is not a direct match but two months ago, I was looking at 2012 Odyssey EXL's with Nav and the best price I found at two dealerships with the lifetime power train warranty was $34,075 BUT, I hadn't included the things you did. One of the useful tools I found was to go up on USAA.com (there are other sites if you are not a USAA member...for military) and they ask you for your zip code. Since I began in the early fall and was traveling from our house in eastern NC, to one of our daughters houses in Pittsburgh, PA and then to my brothers house in Western NY state outside of Buffalo is that if you enter various zip codes, you will get very, very different pricing from these 'direct dealer quotes'. If you want to spend some time on putting in say 10-20 zip codes from different major areas/cities, you may see what I did, VASTLY different pricing, which is EXACTLY how I discovered the 34,075 price fo the EX-L w/Navi. Also, by doing it this way, you can 'build/price' your EXACT Odyssey on line and then, sit back and wait for them 'to come to you' with a price and then play them against each other.

2011 Ex Turbo by dang2323 on Sun Jan 29 18:55:19 PST 2012

Hello all Just a little over a month ago I went to a local dealer looking for a 2012 EX. However, the dealer had more than a few 2011's still on the lot. So I test drove a 2011 EX turbo with premium package and didn't look back. Final price before taxes was $22,800. This price did include rebates. Love the car! And the price was incredible for everything the car gives you. Car is handling nicely in the snow too (Buffalo, NY).

Bought 2012 CRV 2WD EXL for $25,700 ($28,131 OTD) by kab3164 on Wed Jan 25 12:59:37 PST 2012

Bought a 2012 Honda CRV EXL 2WD in Lockport, NY near Buffalo yesterday West Herr Honda. I used this site and thread to do a lot of research so want to pay it forward with my info: Paid 25,700 plus tax and fees for total of $28,131. Polished Metal coloring with grey leather interior. This is below invoice so I'm hoping I got a decent deal. I was going to go with an EX model but couldn't pass up the EXL for not much more.
