Here are a few new thoughts about my new Legacy: 1. It's like an an Accord with an attitude. 2. I'm really proud of my home state workers--build quality is so fine. 3. Homer would say, "MMMMM, Comfort!" 4. Silver is so slick looking and its the color to have with this model and all the metallic trim inside. 5. Too early for an ice or snow storm--I really want to try out the wiper and mirror heaters. Boxer growl on this car is just as cool sounding as the turbo whine on WRX. 6. New mileage report,city only, coming soon. The Subaru owner that was formerly known as "TWRX" or "YWRX" but will henceforth be known as "Paleo" Paleo

bumper paint issues

Reading through some old threads and amazed at what I am reading. Have had a silver 2005 G35X for several months. City driving, mainly highways. In the past two months the front bumber has begun showing severe paint flaking, several areas approaching 1-2 inches long with bad thinning of the paint around it indicating it will only get worse. I am taking the car in for 60K service this Saturday, and will bring this up. I purchased the 2 year warranty extension when I bought the vehicle so things should be covered. I realize paint chips aren't covered, but after reading this, and realizing this kind of damage is not just a paint chip but basically a delamination of the paint, I am curious how they will react. Appreciate any input

It was the silver one you may have seen pictures of either here or one of the other automotive news outlets. I think the New York Times drove it once too. If you've read one of those reviews, I don't have much of substance to add. I did read the spec sheet inside, which claimed 60mpg highway on the European highway cycle, which would translate to something in the 50-ish stateside. It also claimed something like 40 (Euro) city, which had me convinced for a while they were talking imperial gallons - but I'm not so sure. Acceleration was fine for a family sedan. It was slightly noisier than a 4cyl gas Honda, but not any worse than something like a Subie gasser. It was a manual (yea!) and compared to 4 cyl gas engines, the extra torque seemed to work well pulling away from stops. What was perhaps most remarkable was how unremarkable it all was. It's a very serviceable family sedan - room for 4, decent handling, decent performance, and better fuel economy than a Smart. It was only later that I found it would be offered in the US sometime in 2009. I don't know that we'll get one, but my initial impression is very very favorable.

Purchased used TL Type-S 6MT $28,900

Thanks in part to some discussion here and in the TSX forum, I purchased a used 2008 TL Type-S 6MT with 12K miles a couple of weeks ago for $28,900 from a Toyota dealership in Texas that had taken it in on a trade. The previous owner (and dealer) left the original owner's Aug 2007, $39K+ receipt in the owner's manual. The previous owner also left all of their phone numbers, etc. in the Nav system's memory. (Let this be a lesson to all of you when you sell your car later!) Carmax had several 2007 and 2008 Type-S 6MT's for around $32K. (They have a blue 2007 with 18K miles in Raleigh right now which they've only recently reduced to $28,998. On Aug 31, they were asking $31,599 for this exact car.) The 6MT was practically impossible to find new from any Acura dealer nationwide last month. Even a used one was hard to find -- especially in silver or carbon bronze. Getting 31 MPG Hwy and 21 MPG City. The most helpful search engine for my search was probably oogle.com, though I used several others, too.
