2004 Cavalier

I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier base model - Black, 5 speed, moonroof and 43000 miles. Runs excellent and no accidents. Tires are good - 70% left. I know cav's are not worth much, but it is what I have! La Plata, Md. - 30 miles south of D.C.
LLB

Since we seem to be talking about left lane blockers, I experienced a good one this morning. My commute takes me up US 301 from the Harry Nice Bridge (which traverses over the Potomac River) through southern MD. From the bridge to La Plata is a 13 mile stretch with only one light. Late model F150 decides he ain't going any faster than 63 mph in the left lane. Only problem is there are several vehicles that are going approximately the same speed in the right lane. In the meantime there are several vehicles that want to go faster building up in the two lanes behind these turkeys. What made it more frustrating is at times the vehicles in the right lane sped up leaving a hole in which 4-5 faster drivers managed to slip through and then get over into the left lane ahead of the F150. Then a van merges into the right lane which Mr F150 decides he will run even with them for the rest of the way into La Plata. Oh wow, we're up to 64 mph!!! I don't think he ever looked in the rear view mirror. What made it somewhat dangerous was there were at least 2 18-wheel empty trash trucks in the mix. By the way on the subject of LLB's being cited, I have never seen one pulled over for impeding traffic. At least not in the Washington DC area. Most are pulled over for speeding, or aggressive driving behavior.
Potomac River Bridge

Not to mention that the bridge (Harry W. Nice Bridge) over the Potomac is a two lane bridge (one way each way) with a toll for the southbound lanes ($3.00 and $.60 for commuters). To top off the LLC's one has to deal with heavy traffic on Friday evenings during the summer as half of the DC area residents try to bolt out of Dodge City........... And I had a real inconsiderate driver yesterday. Prior to getting on US301 I exit the infamous Capitol Beltway and turn on to Ritchie-Marlboro road. R-M road is a 4 lane divided hwy which then splits (at a signal) into White House road and R-M road with R-M road branching to the right and becomes a regular 2 lane road. At the signal prior to the split I am in the right lane and have to clear the intersection before moving over to the right turn lane. Anyways a Jeep Cherokee is in the left lane beside me. As the light turns green he accelerates hard cutting across the lanes left to right while I'm accelerating into the right turn lane. And then the idiot keeps coming over. Had I not slowed his right rear qtr panel would have met my left front qrt panel. After the turn he then has the audacity to travel barely 5 mph over the limit. The way he cut me off one would have thought he was in a fired up hurry. At least there wasn't any LLC's south of La Plata yesterday. :)

"Are you refering to those Charles County, MD rednecks. ?" Oh heck yeah! I can understand the out of area drivers (NJ, NY, CT, etc) but the locals like to drive at 55-60 at exactly the same speed or slightly faster than those in the left lane. If you dart into the right lane to try to get around no one will let you back over so those that want to go faster (65-70) line up behind the LLC as the try to wait patiently for him to pass the driver in the right lane. It just seems to have gotten worse over the past few weeks. Summer, maybe?  "These are the same ones who when stopped at a red light, wait 15-20 seconds before moving when the light turns green.   If green lights are a problem for them, why would you think those Chuckites would know what lane to be in ?" Maybe I am expecting too much. On the other hand there has been a fair amount of commercial buildup between Waldorf and La Plata. I believe they have added at least 2 -3 new signals with at least one more about to go online. And of course the Waldorf residents rejected a bypass. It's steadily getting worse. As to terrified drivers - haven't seen many around here(southern MD, northern neck of VA). More like oblivious to what is going on around them.

They may have doubled the toll but I still only pay $.60 a pass as I have a electronic thingy on my windshield to deduct from my account as a commuter. I pass over the bridge at least 10 times a week - more if we go shopping in Waldorf or La Plata. It's funny - I observe more inconsiderate drivers during the evening commute than the morning commute. Or is it I'm not quite awake yet? Last night (Sunday) was a mess going north towards the Nice Bridge. Due to the heavy I-95 traffic a good amount of travelers were getting on 301 at the Carmel Church exit and heading north on 301 to bypass the heavy I-95 traffic. Result was a 12 - 14 mile backup from the Bridge back into Virginia. This is due to the merging of 2 lanes northbound into 1 (the bridge is only 2 lanes (one north, one south). Our development is only 3 miles south of the bridge and my daughter works at the Burger King just further south. She said they were busy the whole afternoon & evening due to the heavy traffic. I think some of the LLC's happen (at least in the AM hours) from them avioding the good amount of traffic trying to enter NSWC (Navy base) and to aviod the trucks exiting the scales just before the bridge. They figure why get over when the lanes merge anyway or they just don't care.

It was cold Saturday, rained Sunday, but we still had fun watching the kids play in the sand. Don't know my mileage 'cause I made it there and back on the same tank! :-) We got that heavy down pour on the way back - on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge! Yowza! Signs on the bridge fell over onto the road, and they closed part of it. It's a few miles long and you get serious cross winds, boy was I glad to have AWD. Made sure to point that out to my wife, too. ;-) A tornado hit in La Plata, which is good because I'm not sure AWD helps *that* much. BTW GT wagons have 2 moonroofs. -juice
