I can name a few very recent efforts that GM could've saved money on. - How many Lambda utes do you need? Was the Traverse necessary? - Did Saab really need to invest the time, the marketing, the engineering into the "Black" series (or whatever goofy lingo they want to call it) only to sell a total of 1500 copies? Does Saab need to exist at all? The brand is about as healthy as Isuzu was. Cutting them loose would save a lot of investment dollars IMO. - How about the engineering it took to add V8 option to the Colorado and Canyon pickups? Why? They were beyond pathetic when they came out and with the hint of 4+ dollar gas, a V8 is the last thing I would've thought they needed to generate sales. How about instead, using that cake to start from scratch? How about NOT letting them wither on the vine for a 10 year life cycle? What a waste. Even piddly little things like the little "GM" badges that go on every vehicle, those don't seem to have made much of an impact?
what now?

Hi, In anaheim, ca. i own almost own a 2000 saturn sl w/ 85000 miles on it. plumbers truck pulled out of gas station, almost stopping right in my lane, i slowed some, he then moved over to the center lane, of three lanes in each direction. (without warning) flipped U'ie to reenter the same gas station driveway he pulled out of, but now facing 3 lanes of on-coming traffic (by the way this is all 20/20 after the fact...meaning it was not obvious what he was about to do...) I slowed, as he merged 1 lane over, then without apparently looking at anything other than that pump he wanted (i guess) actually continued to not only flip that u'ie & turn left right into me, (lucky me... almost passed this idiot) perhaps he thought i was moving faster than i could, taken that he just cut me off (for 2 lanes) as he quickly moved left. That move alone told me he saw me and was just a jerk. anyway, one week later, he never turned it in to his state farm agent. my infinity adjuster is pretty sure they'll total my car. but i dont want a salvage, nor salvage type title, i still owe $1200.00 to mullen finance & my infinity adjuster estimator guess' repair at $2703.00, and "Kelly Blue Book" is probably high at around $2500.00+/-. Infinity adjuster called it "80%" tentivly, but needs to look at his computers "blue book", (guess you guy's go by a secret one). Now let's get to my question, shall we? 1st... I'm a smart woman with NO real knowledge of your car insurance crap. I just know the amount of my monthly payment & signed on the dotted line every time they asked, shaking my head like I understood whatever the heck they were saying... you know... like we all do. My car payment at $252.05, I only had 4 ± payments left & I owned my fantastic, beautiful saturn, that I love. $252.00 less dollars a month I gotta give away. just 4 payments away. state farm, first acting rude (no prob... I threatened injury, told her very calmly that I wouldn't talk to her until I first spoke w/ my attorney & hung up on her) then a very nice sounding (sorry... adjectives im single) this nice guy called me wanting to talk normal stuff, properly. way too long story short... as I said in the beginning I am smart... but feel quite blond these days & lack the "accident"/"Insurance co." lingo and tricks. what the heck now. what are they giving me? when? where do i get to take my car? why not now? (prevent storage fee's if they don't decide to fix it) since it's not a great time of this month for me financially, that's another story, thank goodness, ... what are they going to try? cause i don't want to miss that. and lastly ... what the heck do i need to google to learn what ever it is i minimally should know before i do anything? oh... n thanks. 2005 venture - rattling issue
by joeypiedmont on Mon Jul 07 12:32:33 PDT 2008
Took my wifes '05 in to check what she called 'rattling' coming from the rear of the vehicle. I drove it, and it only happened when the rear wheels were going over bumps. Mechanic says he cleaned out some rocks from off the frame, everything else was stable. Driving it home, heard the same sounds. I got underneath it myself, and the only thing i notice is some kind of tubing with a spring-like thing (sorry for the rookie lingo, not too technical here). It comes off the rear cylinder, connects to the frame by some clips. Moving this or slightly tapping it almost recreates the sound I heard while driving. What exactly is this tubing for and could this be the problem? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Re: When to trade? [bvdj84]

I am familiar with the leasing lingo, trade in value, pay off, equity, all that good stuff, I just want advice from people that have had experience with this at the dealer. I heard a year is a good time to trade. To answer your question, it really depends on the lease agreement you negotiated on your current car. In most cases, 1 year is too soon to trade out of a lease without having to come up with a lot of cash. I recently traded out of my previous 06 Accord EXL V6 to an 08 EXL V6. The timing was right as I was into the LPP plan 30 out of 36 months. Unless you really have to, and you have quite a bit of cash you're willing pay out of pocket, it would financially be in your best interest to hold onto your car for at least another year to 18 months.

Getting out of a lease is the same as getting out of a car loan. Would you think that you could get out of a car loan with minimal damage after 6 - 12 months? Of course the answer is not a chance. With a lease it can even be worse since you put a lot less down then what you would when buying. To get out of a lease you need to call the finance company and ask for the dealer payoff since in most cases that does not include the remaining sales tax. Then you check Edmund's or KBB for the trade-in value of your car. The difference between the two numbers (negative equity) is what you are going to have to pay cash for or possibly roll into you new lease depending on how much the negative equity is. Of course your calculation is only an estimate. What the dealer considers the trade in value of the car is, is what really matters. In most cases now days you will have negative equity on a lease throughout the length of the lease. That is why companies like Chrysler are getting out of the leasing business. They are getting lease returns that are selling for less at auction then what they predicted the residual would be. Even a great residual company like Honda has taken a huge hit on lease returns this year. If you were really familiar with leasing lingo you would have said money factor and residual.
