I was worried
by boaz47 on Thu Oct 23 20:52:25 PDT 2008
After driving around Colorado, New Mexico and Northern Arizona I was a little worried about coming home to california. Fuel in Kingman was $2.99 at one of the stations close to where we spent the night. I decided to fuel up and avoid Needles and drive on to Barstow or Victorville. We got hungry and decided to stop in Barstow. Gas was $3.23 and I looked like I would trip over my bottom lip. I thought I was pretty lucky because the best prices were in Gallup at $2.61 and $2.95 at the Chevron on 66 and the 40. Made it to our sisters house in Riverside and then drove 35 miles back home and as I passed the gas station on our corner, a Velero, gas was $3.03. I may not fill the tank on the Tahoe for another month or more but it was good so see the price down anyway. I don't need gas in the compact yet but I may top off just in case. It may not get filled for another three to 4 weeks. But I will continue to ride my bike for local errands and recreation. I even took my mountain bike to Colorado with me to ride around the campground. But the higher altitude was a bit harder on me than I expected. An EV would work in Colorado Springs I believe. Plus they have a great public transportation system.

No one works down town. Down town is where some shops are but the malls are where people shop and the industrial parks are where business is. Even in LA down town is not where most people work unless they are into finance. The Garment District might be considered down town but not much else. would I like to see it hit $2.00? Yes I would and if they decrease production to try and force it back up I say stop selling them food until it comes back down. If people are afraid to leave home because the cost of fuel is too high they aren't going out and supporting their local businesses. If they don't support the local businesses those businesses close and the people working there can't afford their house. If they lose their house the house next door loses value. I say we can cut back on driving without having high fuel prices. By the way, we don't drive electric cars free. We pay for the electricity. For a GEM in my neighborhood it cost about what it does to leave a 150 watt bulb for a night to recharge it. That is not free. Not like gas but there it is and it is part of my electric bill. But for those of us who travel now and then? Gas was $2.96 wednesday in down town Colorado Springs. It was $2.86 when I filled up in just outside of Santa Fe. It was $2.61 in North Gallup as we pulled into town today. I may have cut my driving by 60 percent over the 6 months but this is a bonus.

No, we are leaving Colorado and heading for Santa Fe. We will send part of the next day at Sky City and then move on to Gallup. The next day it will be Kingman and then home. It might rain Monday so we decided to take 40 and drop below the weather a bit. We paid about $3.40 in Las Vegas New Mexico on the way to Colorado. The weather has been nice.

andre1969 and 1stpik : "A RECESSION is when your neighbor loses his job...a DEPRESSION is when you lose yours. " I love that quote, GB Will Rogers. Yah , I know we have not yet had the first declining quarter of gnp but we shall. Btw when I went to school the definition was three, but inflation you know. The market is way oversold and due for a 10-15% rally, not to say we won't make some new lows in the short term. It is butt ugly, to complete the Gallup poll survey quoted previously. 33 % believe we are in a depression, not the "r " word. 73% believe things will get worse before they get better. I am an optimist by heart but this is a reality car dealers need to deal with. Any deal you can cut, do so and damn the profit margin. Japanese vs domestic only works during decent economic times. We'll survive but the next couple of years will suck, relatively.

gg agree with your comments, why not 120 months ? michaell wrote: "I think it's gonna get worse before it gets better. " Well the Gallup poll agrees with you. Despite not having yet the first declining quarter of lesser gnp, 33% believe we are in a depression, not the r word. 73% believe things will get worse before they get better. I hope your sales stay strong , but it's a severe credit crunch right now.Senator Harry Reid made a comment today that a large insurance company with a household name, is on the verge of bankruptcy. Every insurance company, even those that only sell life insurance took it badly today. Credit is frozen, commercial paper has broken down and tax free money market funds are yielding over 5% . Pass it, you idiot rebel Republicans. Your Newt Gingrich moment didn't even serve Newt very well. You know all those US dollars our foreign " friends " are holding ? It's in US short term interest bearing debt. Let's get them scared that the US financial system is breaking down and after they dump it finance it ourselves. New Edmunds column, How do 15 %car loans affect you ? Wall St., Main street, I have deliberately mis-spelled disgustiated. Angst= gone, disgust = unequivocal, congress = corrupt. Best of luck dealers .
