Re: '99 Camry with whirring noise [suydam]

Whirling noise I start a simple check by loosening the belt to the alternator or the easiest belt on the car to get to. Then start the car for a few seconds to see if it goes away . The problem is in the belt driven part, if it goes away. Sometimes a pulley going bad, or alternator will make that noise. Not a rod, not at that milegae unless you left oil out of the engine for any lenth of time. Hes crazzzzy!.

Maybe the forum should be renamed: "What should a New Owner do with Cadillac?" Maybe you should start a new thread with that title???

I agree - if you aren't a "car guy", you would never make the assumption that the MKS is even a distant cousin to the Taurus, because the differences are profound, and similarities few. Making that reach is part of Ford's clones of the past coming back to haunt them, because this car doesn't resemble other Fords as some have done in the past. I thought the car is every bit as good as the Lexus ES350, and is much larger. Between the two, I'd buy the MKS hands down, but that's the market it is competitive with, not with bigger Lexuses or BMW/Mercedes cars. It's in the range of the ES or Acura RL...and nothing larger or better. The car has no faults for the money, but still fails to get a following or a decent ride in the press for some reason. I fear the car is doomed, based on the number of them piling up at the dealerships around here.

Synthetic oil is always a good idea, and will never hurt your car. However, it may not fix your problem either, as it is not likely a lubrication issue, even though better lubrication may mitigate the problem for a while.

And by the way, the only Hyundai Genesis to come through the Mainheim Nevada auction thus far - was a Lemon Buy-Back. Not too impressive, IYAM. I disagree about the fit, finish, sound system and overall quality of the MKS. The only "near luxury" feature on the car to me, is the engine, which is not as refined, nor as powerful as it should be for that car. The Ecoboost may fix that, don't know, but otherwise, I think it's every bit as good as the Acura just as it is.....

if a Cobalt had as nice an interior as a Jetta, there would be people busting down the doors to get one. Man, you said a mouthful there, lemko! ;)
