Re: Success with Manufacturer or Lemon Law? [texico]

The shutter you are feeling is most likely the torque converter clutch not fully locking up as it should around that speed. Unless your a certified tech I wouldn't advise you attempting to fix this problem yourself. I had the same problem on my 1999 ES300 (135K miles) I am a tech and had the proper tools to determine the problem and fix it accordingly. You might try getting a transmission serviced and putting in an additive like Bars or a "No slip" additive for Automatic Transmissions. Hope that helps

Okay Maybe I didn't understand that drive-by-wire and intelligent transmission control, or fuel air management in an engine control unit don't apply to my "vintage" Lexus. yes, it really is a '92. but I was having the exact symptoms described here. the car is drives fine. it's only happened when cruising at 40-45 MPH, all is well. until you press the accelerator again. then the car shutters like crazy until it passes 45 MPH. then it's all good again. if you mash it hard in the 30's and pass through the 40's it does not do it. anyways... the solution given a few pages back totally worked for me. I pulled out the "ECU-IG" fuse for about five mins. and put it back in. the problem is gone.
Over Priced Camry

NEVER again. all those extra $$$ just for the (L) on the hood. they are way too proud of their over priced Camry & over priced parts. you can't get parts from the Toyota Dealer. everything in the car is designed to force you back to the Lexus dealer. same parts, just changed the bolt patterns enough so you can't use the cheaper Toyota same part. you have to use the more expensive Lexus same part. I found the "owners manual" to be the biggest joke of all. it has the index in the back of the book. look up anything. head light adjustments, bulb replacement... anything. they all say the same thing. "see your Lexus dealer" right down to the stereo. it has this oddly shaped stereo. not a square or rectangle. plus it's about five time the size of a replacement stereo. so again. your forced into fixing it or replacing it at the Lexus dealer with a Lexus stereo. and don't even try to call the Lexus dealer service department for advice on a problem. the one and only answer you will get is... "yeah sure, we can help you... bring it on in." you can't just tell me how to get the ashtray out of the dash? or where the headlight adjustment screw is? "nope, but you can bring it in and we'll look at it for you." I also have a '98 Honda Accord EX. easy to fix. engineering is excellent. drives just a nice if not better than my ES. much better on fuel. the ES sucks it down. both have a 3.0 V6 unless you think your impressing someone with the (L) I would say it's a big waist of money. oh, P.S. I didn't buy mine because it was a Lexus. it was passed down to me. I would have never paid that much for a silly car that's going to drop in price as soon as I drive it off the lot. birds, door dings, kids sitting on it when you come out of the store. eh! I'd take a good ol' pick-up any day over one of these again. rich Womens car.

I think your vehicle is of such vintage that the whole of the conversation with respect to drive-by-wire and intellengent transmission control, or fuel air management in an engine control unit do not apply to you. if your vehicle is truly a '92, and if you are experiencing hesitation upon throttle application, either you have a fuel/air problem (dirty throttle body, clogged air filter), missing hose, clogged EGR port, etc, or you have a transmission problem (dirty fluid, problematic shift solenoid), or something along those lines. you could also have an issue with plugs, ignition coil, wires... for that matter a clogged CAT covertor might yield a loss of power / stumbling. have you googled the issue more? how about another site dealing with vintage lexus. do you have a shop dealing with lexus / toyota vehicles. you might want to ask them how much it might cost to diagnose.

Thank You all for the information. other than this site I've had a hard time getting anyone to tell me for sure what this could be. My '92 ES300 started these same symptoms about a month ago. running at 40-45 MPH when the accelerator is pressed it shutters like you ran over a dog or something. I see allot of people have this same problem. I've had this car for over ten years... why would this problem just pop up now?
Milage at 15k
by tron299 on Tue Oct 17 20:04:01 PDT 2006
I bought my '06 LT hatchback last December. I have been tracking the milage since then. The highest I have gotten was 36.5 mpg. There are several things that seem to help with the milage. First at least in NC the brand of gas makes a big difference. Exxon was the worst I got 24.5, BP and Chevron are the best two at about 33-36,with Texico and Shell close behind at about 31-32mpg. This is all about 50/50 city/highway dirving. Also, at the first oil change I switched to a synthetic oil. It gave a noticable increase in horsepower and increased my mlage by about 2-3mpg. I have some other improvements that I will make after the warenty drops off. Also If you use only Quaker state synthetic oil they will give you a 250K mile warrenty on your engine! Check it out on their website. All you have to do is register and save your rescipts.
