John McElroy's column: Way back in 1979 when Chrysler needed government help, there was a political cartoon that perfectly captured the situation. If featured an old Plymouth Fury with giant tail fins teetering halfway over a cliff, with a tow truck parked nearby. A bystander wearing a shirt labeled U.S. Taxpayer was staring at the car on the cliff. The tow truck driver was nonchalantly picking his teeth and telling the taxpayer, "I can tow it out, or push it over the cliff, but either way it's going to cost you." Nuf Ced.
Re: SOS! intermittent LOUD noise 98 Blazer LT 4x4 [troublelight]
by bammon on Fri Nov 14 22:19:08 PST 2008
I doint know if this will give you any insite to your problem I have a 97 chev blazer that is making whirring type noise ( seems to be comming from front driverside undercarriage with some vibration felt on driverside floor board ; over the last two years I have relaced both halfshafts ( fron axels) twice, new rotors/brakes, new wheel bearings twice on driverside and once on passager side, new U joints in main rear drive shaft; idler arm, driverside ball joints twice; passenger side balljoints once, new tires twice, new shocks front and back, I have taken it in for tire balance numerous times; with all mechanics advice still makes noise but has gotton louder the last few weeks; now I am preparing to drop front diffential and rebuild with bearing/seal kit; hoever I dont feel to enthusiasic or remotely sure if this is the provlem. This doen't include all of the other non related repairs I have done; WHAT A LEMMON! I paid way too much for it in the first place and then the value has dropped I suppose due to the poor reputation; I have poured $1000-$2000 total into it for repairs and it is still hungry; on the possitive side at least I am getting a lot of excercise. maybe I should just push it off a cliff rather than try and sell it and give someone else the pains and edless pit of repairs and $. Lesson learned; never judge a car by it's cover.

The Cliff Notes (TM) is that in the beginning the fuel bladder can be somewhat variable. Simply ignore it. If it only wants to take 5.5 gal you might try to gently bleed in a little more but if it keeps shutting off the pump it might also be the pump! Just recap it and drive away. Almost assuredly you will have a less than full tank but over the long haul, meaning 1-5 yrs, this one short tank will be inconsequential. On the following tanks you'll very likely be adding 10 gal as you expected. Now if you can only add 5.5 gal on every tank then there might be a problem in the filling. BUT.... if you can only add 5.5 gal and you're getting 400+ miles on 5.5 gal then you've gotta tell everyone how you're doing that. ;) :shades: The fuel bladder issue is well-known and well-understood ever since this Gen2 arrived. It is different and it's been an intentional design parameter. The vast majority of owners have no issues or can work around them. Over 93000 miles I've encountered it about 3 times. I just ignore it and enjoy the vehicle. It's the most minor of inconveniences.
Why Lease?
by driverofcars on Tue Oct 28 21:11:53 PDT 2008
With the brutal interest rates and cliff drop depreciation on 07's and 08's, why would you lease? Even after taxes, etc., you can get a great value right now on a practically new Expedition. The companies that used to buy batches of leases are no longer touching American and many other cars- the value prop of a lease has fallen into the toilet since about August.

Tough beans! Their sins are great and it is right that they should suffer. The world economy was already teetering on the brink, and the spike in oil prices caused by greedy speculators was the shove off the cliff!

I hadn't driven that pass in years...I think next time it will be night or simply go north and take Snoqualmie. I was headed to southern WA, and I think I saved only maybe 30 mins by staying south, as speeds were so slow. I took Snoqualmie over several days earlier, and it was a breeze. But one good thing I guess about the slowness is even with the grades, my big V8 got 25mpg on that trip. Sorry no pics imidazol, I was too focused on dodging the motorized pylons in front of me :shades: ....but there must be some on the web somewhere. It is a very scenic drive, especially alongside a couple lakes, and where you drive on a cliff face with maybe a 200 foot drop on one side.
