Locate an Auto Repair Shop in Northfield, New Jersey

I recently purchased a 2006 BMW X3 at the end of September. The dealer I purchased it from went out of business about 2 weeks after I bought it... so lots of sketchyness with that entire situation that I won't get into... Anyway, about 3 weeks ago I had a couple problems with starting the car. The first time, it took me about 4 tries before the car finally started (it cranked but didn't turn over). About a day later, the car wouldn't start at all. I turned the ignition and didn't even hear a sound. When I had a friend jump it, it started almost immediately after connecting the jumper cables. I thought it may have had something to do with the cold weather since it started happening once it got cold. I brought it to a repair shop. They were able to reproduce but not able to diagnose. I then brought it to the Fields BMW service center in Northfield because of their more "advanced" tests. They haven't been able to reproduce, did a full diagnostic test and haven't found anything wrong with the car. No fault codes or issues reported with any of the tests. They did mention that the "block box" recorded a "no start" but that they haven't been able to figure out why. Needless to say, I'm extremely frustrated they no one has been able to figure out what's going on. Not to mention, the service reps at the dealer are really awful and not helpful at all. Anyone have any ideas of what it could be if there are no fault codes reported and the tests come back clean?

Replying to toney2 This issue is defintely fixable - I was also concerned having similar symptoms with my brand new 5 series -my car drifted to the right, I was fatigued from the constant pushing the steering wheel to the left. With that said I communicated the issue to my dealer Fileds BMW, Northfield IL, 847.441.5300... They were aware of this issue - I believe this is a common issue of the 5 series - my car was immediately taken in, they followed BMW protocol and my car was returned as promised. It drove straight but the steering wheel was slightly off center to the left, about 1/32 to 1/64th. When I mentioned it to the technician we took a test drive and he agreed - he suggested that he needed to make an additional toe adjustmment - he moved one side in and one side out and it miraculously straightened the wheel. My car tracks straight and the drifting is totally gone. There should be enough history out there to remedy this issue - it is definitely fixable - be patient its worth the wait!!!!

Welcome to Florida! The main difference would be sales tax. Assuming you're moving to Orange County, the tax rate is 6.5%. Residuals might be slightly different, based on region, but not drastically different. I've been quite satisfied with Fields, so I would recommend them. They have two dealerships here in the Orlando area. Coincidentally, they also have dealerships in Northfield and the Chicago area. As for loyalty, any loyalty rebates are sponsored by the manufacturer, so they would apply at any BMW dealership.

I just want to say that, yes, I did end up getting a new bumper. I went through the insurance only because I didn't have the whole amount to fix it. Granted my $500 was interesting to come by, it was easier than the $800 or thereabouts for the total replacement. Second, if he's insisting that you not go through insurance this means he hasn't got any. I would be very concerned about whether or not to trust him. I would lean toward not trusting, but that's just me. The bumper is one piece so they would have to replace the whole thing. There really isn't a way for them to patch the bumper to make it like new. I had them paint it at the shop and the paint seems to match to me. Then again if there aren't any garish differences I don't notice. Depending on who your insurance guy is your rates may not increase since the amount the insurance company pays wouldn't be worth a hill of beans. You may be able to have it covered under comprehensive, not exactly sure how it works, but since I didn't know who hit mine I had to go through hit and run. I think my insurance guy, American Family, said that if they pay less that $1000 or $1500 they consider it a 'non-event.' You may want to check on that. Hope this helps. I don't know whereabouts in MN you live, but you may be able to find a used bumper in a junkyard, I know the only junkyard close to me is Viking, down in Northfield and they don't have cars that new.
